Announcing a new feature now in Adobe Camera Raw (17.2) – Removal of Distracting People

Under the Remove dialog, under Distraction Removal, we have added an item called “People”.

This feature supports faster and easier detection and removal of distracting people in an image. It is offered as a Tech Preview in the Adobe Camera Raw Plugin-only and is available now. Please try it out and let us know what works well, what doesn’t work well, and anything that might improve the experience.

Thank you!

Terrible. Aimed to take out a “distractive” person. Extremely easy to find for the software plus plane background (single color). Made a complete mess of it, removing the distraction but giving the main person in the shot a bad lip surgery and third degree burns in the process. More than just disappointing.

LOTS of ghosting/outlines of what’s been removed with the people distraction removal. Extremely frustrating!

In the remove pannel please add a brush to add or remove from the selection to be removed.

Thanks.

Me too had this problem : While the tool removed the people nicely, it did not adjust the surrounding lighting, making it look like two ghosts were stalking the photo.

The fact I can’t remove a woman in a bikin in the background because of “policy guidelines’ is silly.  I have a nice picture of my family and I can remove two other people (who happen to not be in bikinis) and the most distracting person in the photo can’t be removed due to “policy guidelines”.

And...for what it’s worth, in the next photo, it did remove her.  Guess there’s some bugs to work out there.

The other problem is the tool deletes things it should not. Here are before and after examples from today. Frankly disappointing and dispiriting that one year later, while AI has made so many incredible advances, this tool continues to make so many mistakes.

I can’t even upload the examples because you won’t allow it. 🤦🏻

People removal tool can work really well, but does not always identify all of the people.  It would be helpful if there was a way to refine the selection,  like adding the people that were not identified so that they could be easily removed. I have a picture where there were two people that were not identified by the remove tool, but they were identified by the mask people tool.  Also there was a case where two people were identified as a single person and I did not want to remove both people.  Sometimes the content replacement is weird and appears to be based on what the people were wearing rather than the background.

Agree. @Rikk Flohr_Photography please allow us to perhaps lasso people, or zoom into parts of the photo where the tool missed, and let it have another run at it. In my high resolution images it’s missing a lot of stray people.

Sometimes it works really well, but other times the result isn't usable. It would be helpful to have an eraser tool available to refine part of the character selection. That would certainly improve the result.

So AI removed people alright but could not create the content based on context.
