Announcing a new feature now in Adobe Camera Raw (17.2) – Removal of Distracting People

Under the Remove dialog, under Distraction Removal, we have added an item called “People”.

This feature supports faster and easier detection and removal of distracting people in an image. It is offered as a Tech Preview in the Adobe Camera Raw Plugin-only and is available now. Please try it out and let us know what works well, what doesn’t work well, and anything that might improve the experience.

Thank you!

The first image I tried this on worded very well.  The second image didn't detect the obvious people nor remove anyone.  This is a AWR full RAW image (the image I uploaded is a JPG due to your file size limit).

The third image I tried skipped the most obvious person and rep[laced the other people with other people!

These 2 new updates to LRC. is one of the sweetest update so far. Adobe has been doing a real good job of date. I soon have to stsrt doing away some some of my other apps. Keep it up. Thanks!

Distraction removal only seems to be available on certain images. I can go to one image in a series of 3 and it works as expected. Go to the next two images and Reflections and People are greyed out. However I discovered that if I make another edit and then go back to Distractions Removal the options may be available. Also, trying to remove people may be hit or miss. On some images it does a very good job of selecting all or most of the people while on others it misses 90% of the people.

This needs the ability to be able to use a brush to paint out certain areas that I don't want changed. This currently selects areas that I want to exclude. Other than that, it's pretty good.

If you click on the pin in the one you want to remain and press delete, it will remove the mask on that one, and not remove it.

I found it inconsistent, in some photos it didn't choose anyone, in others it worked great.  My question is about after generating the people selection, I chose to leave one person.  Then I tried to go in again to remove that person, but the tool did not work.

I do appreciate that the distraction removal tools have been implemented within Lightroom Classic.  However, they do seem to be a bit hit and miss.  Sometimes the options are not available for a given photo (DNG) (the sideways arrow beside People or Reflections being grayed out) only to be available a few minutes later.  Also, I'd love the ability to refine the mask created when removing people as it often seems to select more than it should.  By that I mean it sometimes selected parts of the image that don't contain people or shadows of people.

I would like to access the brush to add areas to a selection in the distraction removal tool.

I don't understand why sometimes when using remove people, new people (who usually look like cabbage patch dolls) replace some of them.

For my Photography its unusable. The old version was (and still is) much more precise.

So is the AI Denoise. Its just brings a click instead of the use of the precise rulers that we still have.

For me just gags for marketing purposes but not for pros.
