Announcing a new feature now in Adobe Camera Raw (17.2) – Removal of Distracting People

Under the Remove dialog, under Distraction Removal, we have added an item called “People”.

This feature supports faster and easier detection and removal of distracting people in an image. It is offered as a Tech Preview in the Adobe Camera Raw Plugin-only and is available now. Please try it out and let us know what works well, what doesn’t work well, and anything that might improve the experience.

Thank you!

Thanks for your response, but that wasn't my issue. When I was working in
Lightroom, the Distraction Removal removed all of the people properly. When
I exported the image as a jpg, the people were all back in the resulting
image.

I "removed" people walking down the street. The Remove process created four groups, and the removal seemed to work. However, when I went back to the library and exported this photo as a jpg to my Mac, the people returned.

There are times when it works, but most of the time it adds inappropriate and unwanted details and needs to be deleted again.

Removed the person but replaced it with a cow. And there is no cows nowhere in the picture.

I guess I am not the only one noticing this. Revisited my chicken one a second time and got a little dog. Yet, on other photos it works splendidly. In another instance, on another photo, it found a group of two people, I hit remove only to have it replace the pair with a single guy -- a different guy that was nowhere in the photo. The tool is useful but needs a bit more work, I think.

I have to laugh. I have had prettu good luck with this thing, in a lot of cases, it does a pretty good job of removing people. However, I just tried it a few minutes ago and it removed a couple people and droped in a rooster. Yep, no kidding, a male chicken. I cant stop laughing as I type this.

Just for the record, here are the two photos.

removing people meant that it also removed trees etc. the "click on a removed areas to regenerate its result or exclude" is confusing because the only pin was on a person. It seems to remove everything and not just the people and there does not seem to be a way to refine it selection.

Works well if distracting people don't overlap with the subject.  Otherwise, it seems to grab part of the subject for removal in addition to the distraction.

Unfortunately this feature only works partially, some of the time. The distraction removal tool is very intriguing in theory but I still have to go into Photoshop and use generative AI or remove people by hand. Thank you for rolling this out but there is obviously some work to be done in order to get it where it needs to be.

In Lightroom Classic the new people removal option will not remove people but substitute for another person. Out of three options, none of them have no person in the image.
