Announcing a new feature now in Adobe Camera Raw (17.2) – Removal of Distracting People

Under the Remove dialog, under Distraction Removal, we have added an item called “People”.

This feature supports faster and easier detection and removal of distracting people in an image. It is offered as a Tech Preview in the Adobe Camera Raw Plugin-only and is available now. Please try it out and let us know what works well, what doesn’t work well, and anything that might improve the experience.

Thank you!

First time I tried it and it worked great. Removed several unwanted people from photo

For the most part, I have been enjoying this feature but times it produce results like such.  In this case, it removed people, but then added a made up person.  Scratches my head 🙂

I wish that the remove distracting people offered the option to add to the selection.  The algorithm's choices of "distracting people" leaves out some that I would select and when you use the generative remove it doesn't do a very good job.

Program does not remove all people.  One picture, people were behind a burned tree, quiet obvious.  Second picture, again obvious, coming from the side of the picture but removed two on the other side of the picture.

Not hugely effective on removing people from the background at a motorcycle show.

Remove distracting people doesn't know the difference between people and a house! Yes, it selected two distracting people, though as they were about half a mile away in the distance, I wouldn't call them distracting. Nice job.

However, it also selected a house which was about 30 feet above the people. And what was a house and certainly wasn't distracting, was replaced with a building of some discription which was distracting. It didn't even fit in with the surrounding buildings.

All the AI apps don't seem to be very good. What they produce is generally very poor in quality and bares little resemblance to what is asked or if left blank of the surrounding area of the object it is removing. Slower, but manual is best. And no removal of houses when selecting people for removal.

I thought I'd try again, and I did, twice with the same house again selected!

Just tried this for the first time. It worked correctly in a complex environment.

Removal worked perfectly but left a cutout-- where the person is masked out the exposure is too high. Less important, the carpet is too bright

Works only randomly here and there. Not often good enough.
