Question

1. Navigation (Next button) fails to display. 2. Only part of flowchart displays, until you re-enter

I love the folks in this community. You all have helped me out multiple times in years past. Thank you.

I just obtained a new job and had to continue the development of a Captivate file that was in progress when the prior Developer left and I'm having 2 issues that might be related. It was built as a Responsive Project I'm told. The file plays incorrectly on about 9 slides (Forward navigation button won't display) in both Preview --> HTML5 in Browser within Captivate and in the SCORM Cloud.

1. It's linear navigation with standard back and forward arrow graphics used as buttons. On about 9 or so of the slides, the Next button doesn't display the first time you enter the slide and the play head finishes on the timeline (I know it's finished because each audio clip plays completely on all of these slides) so there's no way to go further in the training. I initially thought that maybe a pause in the timeline was stopping them from displaying until I realized that in most or almost all 9 of these slides the Next button will appear if you go to previous slide(s) and then come back into the slide that's not displaying the Next arrow. Sometimes you have to go back and then resume going forward back into the slide 1 to 5 times before it finally will appear where it was previously missing.

2. The second problem is regarding a flow chart with about 8-10 icons and labels that don't display completely the first time the slide is played. Similar to the first problem, the first time the slide is played, only the first 6 icons and labels display. If you go back two slides and then proceed forward to renter the problematic slide, sometimes it displays completely. If it does display completely, and you choose to go to some of the previous slides again and come back into this slide, it often fails to fully display again. It seems to work, then not work, then work again.

Are there any Conditional Advanced Actions being executed by the On Slide Enter event of these slides?

It could be that your previous developer has set up some dynamic behaviour that they didn't completely debug before the project was handed on to you.  It might be hiding the buttons or icons on entering the slide but not revealing them again, but by the end of the slide some variable has been set that then allows the objects to be visible the next time you enter the same slide.

    Just a theory.

Check the Advanced Interaction panel to screen all the actions applied to those slides. It would also be good to post a screenshot of the timeline panel.

Are tne 'Next' buttons on the master slide, or on the first slide and timed for the rest of the project? Or maybe individual buttons on each slide. In the last case check the visibility in the Properties panel.

The Next buttons are on each slide, not the Master slide. I'm going through it now to check the visibility like you suggested. It doesn't appear that any of them are set to "Not visible in output" but both are great suggestions for initial troubleshooting. I'm opening the Advanced Interaction panel now like you and Mr. Ward suggested and go through it.

Thank you both for your prompt responses and suggestions. Lastly, I wanted to say thank you for a question you answered of mine several years back which was very helpful but I never replied with a thank you. If memory serves, I was using Captivate 6 and five or six weird/unexplainable things were happening when the file was published. You educated me that files only ran as designed as long as they were kept under 50 MB. Once I reduced the size of the file to be under 50 MB all but one of those weird things went away and the file ran as designed. Thanks again.
