2 problems with flvs

Hi Folks-

I am having two problems with flvs:

  1. an flv freexes in the middle of playing and then stays locked up if you try to just move forward through the course. (the player stays on top of any other slide you click to so you can't see them.)
  2. In another issue, I have several flvs on adjacent slides.  I would like the learner ot be able to skip a video or exit a video part way through if he/she wants.  What happens is one movie stacks on top of another and both audios play.  ARGHH!

Any help would be sooo appreciated.

Thanks,

Rita

Question: what are the options set to for your flv? If you double-click the flv and go to the Options tab, what are you choosing for "Display for" and the "Synchronize with project." It seems like a bug, but if you choose "rest of slide" or "duration of video," the flv window seems to be stuck on the slide indefinitely. I was able to fix by selecting "specific time" and making sure it lasts as long as the video (and in my case I have "Synchronize with project" selected to let my playbar control both the slide and flv).

Thank you. I will give this a try and report back.

My problem is similar but not quite the same. Can anyone provide assistance?

I need to import a video into CP4. I cannot have two sets of play controls (one for the video, one for the captivate video). Instead, I want to embed the imported video into the Captivate project and allow the main captivate play controls to control the video.

I tried to resolve this issue by first placing the video into a Flash CS4 file - directly into the timeline (no play controls) and then publishing the file and importing it into CP4.

That resolved the dual play control issues nicely (the CP4 play controls now pause/stop the imported video and the CP4 simultaneously)...  BUT.... when I move to any other slide, the imported audio continues to play.

How do I make the imported audio stop upon leaving the slide.

Appreciate any feedback or alternate solutions...

Sara-

Try adding a blank 20 second slide after your video slide. That helped for me. I would love the procedure for placing the video into a Flash CS$ file if you have time to share.

Thanks,

Hi Rita,

Unfortunately, adding a blank 2-second slide won't help in my case. My video is "optional" learning content and I'm anticipating that some learners may want to navigate away from the slide (return them to the main learning program) before the video is complete - so I can't force them to proceed to the 2 second blank slide.

I did find another post that suggested changing the publish settings to "externalize" the animation files. When I did this, the audio problem disappeared - which is good -  but, I'm not sure what the implications will be of externalizing the animation files.

Here's how I placed the video into the Flash CS4 file:

- Open new CS4 document

- Import to stage the video (my video is already in .flv .f4v format)

- When first menu appears, select "embed FLV in SWF and play in timeline"

- When second menu appears, select "place on stage" "expand timeline if needed" and "include audio"

- Then "modify" the document size to match the video size: modify>document> and enter the width and height dimensions to match the video size.

- Publish as swf

- Import the swf into CP4 as an ANIMATION (not a video)

- Edit the publish settings to "externalize" animations

Let me know if this works for you!

Rita,

Did you ever get any info on this issue?  I am having pretty much the same problem.

Yes, I learned that you need to insert a 2 second slide between each movie. The movies can't be on sequential slides or you encounter the stacking issue.

Best of luck.

Hi Folks-

I have added time to my slide which helps the movies from freezing up during a complete playing but I still haven't figured out how to let the learner skip on  through without having the movies stack on top of one another. Also, depending on the bandwidth available reviewers are having trouble with these movings hanging.  I am not sure what to do about this, what the options are.  Any advice would be so appreciated.

Thanks,

Rita
