Question

Add font formatting to TXT filed for GIFT import

Is it possible to add font formatting commands to the TXT file, prior to importing the file into Captivate 9? The goal is to eliminate the need to manually format the quiz slides.

Example:

1. Task is italicized

2. Question Number and Question are bold and center

::«Question Header»

«Scenario_Number»

«Customer_name» «Customer_Variable»

«Customer_Scenario»

------------------------------

«Task»

------------------------------

«Question_Number»

«Question»

{

=«Correct_answer»

~«Incorrect_Answer_1»

~«Incorrect_Answer_2»

~«Incorrect_Answer_3»

~«Incorrect_Answer_4»

}

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have Master Slides created with as much formatting as possible. When using a GIFT import, everything is imported into one text box.  My project requires multiple layers of formatting (italics and bold) in one text box. Can this be accomplished with the OSM?

That is not true: there is a shape or a caption for the title, the question, an answer area, and captions or shapes for each individual answer. Each feedback message is also in a separate text container. I suspect by a 'text box' you mean a shape or a caption, depending on the used theme? To me in Captivate a Text Entry Box is something different.

Individual words to be bold or italic has to be done manually, you only have styles on the level of the different captions or shapes. For GIFT information you have to look at the Moodle documentation (invented by Moodle) but AFAIK I never have seen the possibility to have style formatting. That looks a bit illogical to me because styles are set up in the tool to which you import the GIFT which is only content-based (prefer to create it in a non-formatting app like Notepad on Windows).

Be careful when editing the quizzing master slides because they have a lot of embedded objects which have attached functionality.

I don't know about formatting in a GIFT file. Text font and styles in Captivate are part of the theme you are using. A theme includes all the object styles, the master slides, the skin and the Theme colors palette. The best practice is to first create your custom theme: for quiz slides, edit or create the necessary Quizzing Object styles (Object Style Manager has a separate category), check the master slides for Quizzing (4 for the Quiz types and one for the Score slide). Then import the GIFT file and the quiz slides will take on the formatting set up in the Theme.
