Add TOC to video

Hi,

I am new to Captivate. I am using version 7.

I am trying to figure out how, if possible, to make a TOC (table of contents), that when an item is clicked, the video that is playing jumps to a predefined point.

Thanks for any help,

John

Hi, John. This is pretty easy to do. You have a couple of ways to go this depending on how you will be playing the video. If the video is available via a streaming service, you can bring it into your Captivate project as a synchronized video. If not, you'll need to divide it into sections yourself. Here are a couple of pages from Help that might be useful:

In both cases, make sure the video segments are spread on separate pages of the Captivate project. Then create your TOC in Captivate as usual. Here's another Help article:

If you end up using event videos, you can set each to auto play so the user doesn't notice any disruption. Make sure to use a clear playbar on the video segment itself to hide it unless it's being used.

Good luck to you!

Hi there

If when you are talking about "video", you mean something like you would see on YouTube, the answer is no. There is nothing inside Captivate that allows this. But if you are instead referring to the "stop motion animation" type of project that Captivate so easily creates, the answer is yes. Captivate offers a TOC you can enable that allows the end user to navigate to different slides.

TechSmith Camtasia produces an output that allows this with the YouTube type of video, but in order to use it, you MUST deploy it within its own framework of files that are produced. So if you took it and copied it to YouTube, you would not be able to have it happen.

Cheers... Rick
