I have some pop-ups on my Captivate file (button option) that include a JPEG doc I created. When user clicks on the button the file does not open; instead an Internet browser appears (see below). So basically, the targeted document only opens up from the computer it was created on. What's the workaround for this? Which file formats work? I tried JPEG & PNG. FYI - They were created as Powerpoints then converted to JPEG/PNG...

@eric I'm very sorry, but that video is very outdated, could confuse the users because most system variables in the category 'Movie Control' have changed with Captivate 6, and that tutorial was made for Captivate 5 or 5.5. Too much has changed since that time, be careful!

Thank you Eric and Lily for your advice! Unfortunately, the shared drive will not work for this project due to compliance/confidentiality rules; however, this will be a fix for future projects

Hi,

as good practice, please specify the operating system you are using, the version of Captivate you are running and a screenshot would be great so we can help you faster and more accurately.

The link tool you are describing is calling for a resource to be opened like a web site or a file that all users share (make sure the path is going to work for everyone like //servername/folder instead of G:/folder mapping)

In the situation you describe, I would put the image on a hidden layer (you can click on the visibility icon, it looks like an eye) and make it appear like a pop-up when the user clicks on a link.

I remember learning this technique in a video created by Pooja Jaisingh, I will post the link as soon as I find it

My apologies, I was multitasking

Windows 2007, Captivate Version 9. Due to proprietary content, I would have to scrub the image for a screenshot... Basically learners have content in blue throughout the module that they're instructed to click on for tips or glossary items. Hope this helps until I can get something up here...

Do not use Open URL or File for popups!

Put the image on the stage. Look in the Properties panel for the eye button to hide the image In Output. Do NOT use the eye button in the timeline for the 'layer', because that has no effect in the published file, it is just for editing reasons to hide objects on a crowded slide.

That is totally different from hiding an object In Output.

You don't tell if you want a way to hide that image, close the popup? Have a look at this article, where a shared action can be used to be triggered by a toggle button to show/hide one object or a group of objects:
