Hi

It seems to me that you cannot add a button to a quiz slide, is this right or am I nuts.......or both!!!

Cheers

    HI Lieve,

thanks, hope you do work something out for the benefit of us all and look forward to reading about it in any publication you contribute to.

For now I have opted to add a normal blank slide after the quiz "marks" slide.  On that I have added three buttons, one links to a large online map relative to the questions asked.  Second one takes them back to the same quiz to let them go again and the last one takes them out and  back to the main quiz menu.

But, always happy to have help so "you go girl"

Looking forward to reading your community publications and even more looking forward to see if I understand them.

    Many thanks as always

    Bill

    Hi Bill,

Cannot find a way to realize what you want with the regular Question slides. In CP5 it is pretty easy to go to the 'correct map' slide (I'll call it the 'cheat slide' further on) and to return to the question slide after it (there is an option 'Jump to last visited slide'), but this can only be triggered when the user has given an answer and clicks on the Submit button. And when he returns to the Question slide, the given answer cannot be 'deleted' to be replaced by another one. This is not the way you want it to behave, I understood.

The other possibility is not using the Question slides but to construct slides by using standard and interactive objects (to which the score has to be attached). Then you do have total control, you can 'delete' an answer if necessary, create a dedicated button to go to the 'cheat slide' and then return to the question slide, even to decrement the possible score (because of the use of the 'cheat slide'), etc. Do you want me to give that way a try?

    Hi Bill,

Could you explain why you needed an extra button on the Question slide?

    Hi Lilybiri,

Firstly, I am falling in love with CP all over again, the break has done me good!! I must be a second time newbee........

I am using the quiz section to write a series of "affirmation" geography quizzes.

Meaning, they are part of training, not "tests" as such.

Part of each quiz uses the "Hot Spot" question. slides with a blank map image, say Europe, and question such as "click on Belgium".... etc.  [OK, it put Belgium in just for you!!!]

I wanted the user to be able to click on a button to "jump to slide 20" which houses a full map image. Slide 20[or whatever] would have a "go to last visited" question slide so they return to the question slide and continue building up their score.

In effect, if they feel stuck, they can view a map to get the answer and move on.

I have "fluffed" the problem by using a "Roll over image" with the word Help  as the trigger, to place a full map over the blank map but this involves adding a full image to every Hot Spot slide, growing the .SWF considerably I suspect.

To be honest, this looks a bit clumsy as the full map hides the question map until the cursor is moved off the Help word.

The alternate is to simply have them open a map of the continent in half screen and CP in half screen but this will just encourage laziness.

Finally, I have made the cursor change to a hand when over the Hot Spot, so they have built in clues as it were, but again, this just makes for laziness.

OK, I don't trust students.....amazing what almost 40 years of teaching will do!!!  Since I have sold the app to some other colleges I need it to be

as professional as possible, but the button idea on quiz slides is out so and I don't like the image overlay I will assume the colleges will have an atlas or online map for them to  check on if they do get stuck....but the "hand cursor" is a dead giveaway.

    Many thanks as always,

    good to be back

    Hi Bill,

Fine, see now your reason. And since I'm a teacher too (not yet 40 years, only 30!) do understand you rather well.

Give me some time, will see if I can work out some advanced actions to be triggered by the buttons that are in the Question slides. If I find something, will be back. Just one question: if I succeed in working it out, could I use it as a base for an article in the Adobe Community to help out others looking for similar solutions? Already published two similar articles, just finishing up for the moment a third one. You can have a look at the 2 already published:

    http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/852/cpsid_85255.html

    http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/852/cpsid_85252.html

They are written to promote the use of Advanced actions in CP5; you are still using CP4? Will try to figure it out for both if that is the case. But as you are appreciating CP4 again, I really want to practice as much as possible in CP5, it has so much new and timesaving features.

    Have a nice day,

    Lieve

    Hi Bill

That is correct. Buttons cannot added to an Adobe Captivate project Question Slide, in fact no Interactive objects can be added to a Question Slide. Depending on the type of question you are trying to create, you could get around this by creating your question using Captivate User Variables and Advanced Actions. This would then enable you to add buttons to the slide

Alternatively, if you feel comfortable using Adobe Flash Professional or have access to somebody who is, then another option would be to create the button in Flash and insert this as an animation (Insert > Animation) in CP4 and CP5. This is how I have gotten around this limiation in the past.

Also just as a heads up, you can delete (apart from the Submit button) or customize the default Question Slide buttons. To delete a button just select it and press the Delete button on your keyboard. To customize a button in CP4 double-click the button and make your changes in the Button dialog. In CP5 select the button and make your changes using the Property inspector.

    Best regards,
