Adding Closed Captions to System Audio?

hello -- we have recorded a lot of videos using 2 speakers.  My audio (narration) is mainly silence as I navigate while the speaker talks me through the task (system audio).  For clearer audio (less hiss or white noise and eliminates echos), we then removed the narration line and kept the system audio line.

Now, we would like to go back and add closed captioning.  Since I removed the narration line, how can I add this to the system audio line?  It does not want to save.  I have tried to add silence but it won't save with silence either.

PS - We are using Captivate 9.

I'm sorry but AFAIK you can only add CC to slide audio which was the narration track.

Yes.  That is my issue and the narration track had background noise and was removed.  I did find a work-around which I am posting here in case someone else has the same need.  Thanks for responding and confirming there is not another way.

If you removed the narration from the slide, but kept the system audio.

    • Double-click on the green bar in the timeline to open the system audio.
    • Decrease the audio by two decibels (you will be doubling the audio and this helps keep audio background noise low)
    • Click Save.
    • Note the system audio file name
    • Click the Narration Audio button (it is to the left of system audio)
    • Watch for the Import Narration button to make sure you are in the right place, if you do not see that button, try clicking the Narration icon again.  Do NOT click on Import Narration.  Just be sure you see it.
    • Click Library.
    • Select the same system audio file or clip. (If you decreased audio, it should be at bottom of list)
    • Click Ok.
    • Notice that there are two identical lines of audio now.  This is why we decreased audio by 2 decibels.
    • Click Save.
    • Click Closed Captioning and proceed as normal.
