Additional / optional content within the CBT

Thank you for taking the time to read, and possibly answer, (yet another) one of my questions.

I have a screenshot of software we use that has several buttons used displayed.

Option 1:
I would like to place that screenshot on a PPT slide and be able to setup areas that if the student clicks on will pull up another smaller PPT based CBT.

Example:
If the student clicks on the button "Remote Registry", a 3 or 4 slide walkthru will popup. When they are finished, s/he can close it and either click on another button to view additional information, or advance to the next slide in the CBT.

Is this possible? I am sorry if I am a bit vague. I know what I want it to do, I just do not know how to explaine what I want it to do.

Option 2:
Or is there a way to contain these additional slides within the CBT and they will only be accessed if the student chooses to view the additional content. In other words, 20 mandatory slides with 20 optional callouts or 3 -4 slides each. That way every student is not required to view all 100 slides, only the 20 plus whatever they are interested in.

I hope I have not made you more confused than when you first started reading.

Cordially,

Hi Chet

Definitely do-able, but 100 slides is a bit in slightly uncomfortable territory, but it may be fine. Depends on some different factors. So I'll assume you are fine and not seeing performance issues or project corruption.

Indeed a Click Box object with no action will typically cause the slide it is on to pause. The bigger issue is to ask if you are using a playback control. Because if you are, the user may use the playback control to navigate into unwanted territory.

If you forego the playback control and only allow navigation using your own inserted buttons, you should be able to easily accomplish it.

Cheers... Rick

Hi Hex,

You could try using the rollver slidelets for the "pop-up" content...

Rick,

Would "No Action" for the Click Box on slide 22 of the above senario be the same as stopping the CBT from going forward?

Hi Chet

You may find that questions about how to do something in Microsoft PowerPoint are better suited to a forum that discusses PowerPoint issues. This one is dedicated to discussing Captivate issues.

You will likely receive more/better responses that way.

Rick,

Thank you fo rthe quick response.
At lease in my mind, I am trying to work this out in Captivate to create the CBT.

I know how to create a CBT in Captivate by importing a PPT file.
Now, on one of those slides (in Captivate) I would like to designate a few areas that if the trainee clicks on will take them to that specific module, returning them when it is complete.

Hopefully, this is a better way to ask my question.

Hi Chet

Looks like I misunderstood. Sorry about that. I thought you were asking how to accomplish all of it in PP.

In Captivate you would just insert Click Boxes or Buttons on the slide where you want the user to click. Then you would link the object to different slides by editing the object (Click Box or Button) to assign the action.

So maybe slide two has a screen shot. User clicks one area and jumps to slide four, where a different screen shot appears.

If you want to open different windows or just a new window, you would then create different Captivate projects and use the clickable objects to open the other Captivate to view. Then when the user is finished, they would close Captivate.

Cheers... Rick
