adobe 9 simulation: my program uses the F keys

Hi,

I'm trying to make a simulation of my company's point of sale system.  This is a program that doesn't use a mouse for navigation, only the keyboard - and it uses the F keys for virtually everything.  Lots of F2s, F4s, F5s, F6s and F11s.  When I start the sim recording, it doesn't capture when I hit the keys, and when I hit the F11 it actually shifts the record window to the left about an inch.  I can't find anything about this anywhere.  Help?

thanks!!

one further complication.  I've just been playing in the system, trying to make it work, and now the red recording area moves when i move my mouse.  Any ideas what's happening??

Did you allow panning when starting the capture?

You're going to run into lots of issues trying to create an interactive simulation of a system that relies on function key interactions by the end user. This is because Captivate content is usually played in a browser-based environment and these F keys will not be available to you.  The browsers will already usually have those keys reserved for their own functions and you cannot over-ride them.

I hear you about the browser functionality of the F keys.  I thought I could do a work around by making a mockup of the F keys, putting that  on my desktop (see image) and then making the action trigger (or whatever it's called) a square that's over the F11 "key" area.  I figured I'd hit the actual key to advance my program, but click the mouse to take a picture.

This works for a few clicks, but when I click F11 the red outlined recording window shifts one inch to the left.  This doesn't seem to be a browser only issue - some of the F keys seem to have "control" over the simulation, too.

Is there anything anyone would recommend to accomplish my overall goal (making a simulation of a program that uses F keys)?  Is the solution to go manual?  I do feel like "clicking" on the image of the keys at the top will work, as a, ahem, simulation of the student using the actual key on their keyboard during the training.

I can't be the only person to ever make a simulation of this kind of program, can I?
