Hello Captivate users!

We are pleased to announce the general availability of Adobe Captivate (12.2 update). 

 

What does this update contain

Adobe Captivate (12.2 update) features enhancements to simulation, images, widgets, and native support for Apple Silicon. This update also contains theme enhancements, project resource management, and important bug fixes. Here is a summary of what's new and changed:

  • Universal MacOS installer – Captivate now runs natively on Apple Silicon (M1 or M2-based) Mac computers.
  • Simulation – Add more interactivity and engagement in your simulation projects by adding Click Boxes, Mouse Pointer, Instructions, Highlight Boxes, and Input Fields on a simulation slide.
  • Image Enhancement – We’ve enabled you to add responsive behavior for background images, crop, and apply properties.
  • Widgets – Enable your learners to grasp content more effectively via two new components, Body, and Instructions, for all widgets.

      Hi Everyone one in the community

       

      Before I start I just wanted to say that, in general, I am a huge supporter of Adobe products and use many of the Creative Cloud Apps in both work (as a Digital Learning Designer/Manager) and Leisure. Most of my working life is spent using Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere and InDesign.

      However, Captivate seems to have been the poor cousin of these apps in recent years and I'm sorry to say that in most respects, it has been surpassed by Articulate Storyline. I was quite excited by the release of the All New Captivate but I have been a little bit underwhelmed. There seems to have been very little done to Captivate Classic to bring it up to par with Storyline and the All New Captivate seems to have been released with very limited functionality. Having glimpsed the Beta version and first release, I have deliberately waited until now to see if it improves with updates but I still have many issues with it. I appreciate that sacrifices have to made in order to make the courses responsive but there are many things that could be improved that do not impact on the responsive nature of the courses.

      I'm happy to post these as feature requests (although experience tells me that it would be years before they get looked at seriously) but wanted to post here first incase I have missed a trick or two and my observations are wrong. Please let me know if I have misunderstood any functionality and if there are ways to achieve what I am trying to do. However, I am not looking for work arounds (which are always over complicated and require some sort of pay off to be achieved). I'm looking for legimiate ways to work within the All New Captivate infastucture.

       

      Devices

      1. Why is there no function to rotate tablets like there is with phones?

       

      Buttons

      1. No control over the size of an icon inside a button(except S/M/L). You can only control the size of the button/padding arround it.
      2. Need full control over size of button. S/M/L is not enough
      3. Need full customisation of buttons via import of SVGs, not just the icon inside the button. (This can be achieved by inserting an SVG and making it interactive but being able to create and save new buttons would be much better UX.)

       

      Hot-Spots

      1. No control over size or shape of hotspot (would like to be able to draw around items in an image this could be done via SVG import but that doesn’t seem to work – see below).
      2. No control over the change of state to cursor on hover over a hotspot, (e.g., if you want to have an invisible hotspot but still reveal it on a hover the only option is to change the initial state of the hotspot to invisible but make the hover state visible).
      3. When selecting to change the hotspot icon and replace SVG from the system, nothing appears. If this worked and imported the SVG at full size, you could draw shapes in Illustrator and import them in to have a hotspot the exact shape you require. One other caveat to this would be for the hotspot to be the actual shape and not the bounding box it sits in. At the moment, although the hotspot icon might be round, the actual hotspot is square.

       

      Overlays

      1. I have experimented with clear backgrounds on overlays but when an overlay is shown the slide below is automatically blurred and there seems to be no way to control this.
      2. Also, when an overlay first appears it is surrounded by a solid black border even if no border is selected.

       

      Videos

      1. When ensuring that a video fills the screen on a desktop, why does it add a huge black border, top and bottom, to the video when on a phone and in landscape, forcing the learner to scroll down past the black section? I can understand why this would happen on a tablet but it should not happen on a tablet either if the tablet can be rotated.

      Hi there.

       

      Is there any way to add a 10 second rewind button for the users in new captivate? Im a newbie and i searched for hours in the web and coundt find anything.

      New Captivate doesn't support dynamic bookmarks. In older versions this would be possible using an action like this:

      Expression cpCmndGotoFrameAndResume = cpInfoCurrentFrame - 300

      This is based on the default framerate in Captivate which is 30, so 300 frames equals 10 seconds.

      Will Adoble Captivate content be impacted by Chrome deprecating the unload event listeners in the browser.

      Is a data sent to an LMS or LRS from captivate content using onunload or onbeforeunload event?

      I have downloaded and installed Captivate 12.2. However, I cannot open my previous files as they all have a CPTX format. Is there a way to convert them into the newer format so I do not have to do the rework and recreate all of these files?

      Sorry, but the new version is totally incompatible with previous versions. There is no way to open a cptx-file, you need to install Captivate Classic to do so. It is the most recent version of CP2019.

      But I have to use the enterprise license which is pointing me to 12.2. Can I reinstall and get the classic version?

      @Saurav_Ghosh I tried multiple times to install the update but continuously receive an error. I am using Windows 10 Enterprise. Ver 22H2.

      A staff member was answering your question, so I stepped away (had seen it, I never miss a question).

      Did you try to update from the Help menu (as I did, and had lot of problems) or did you download the update?

      I've updated to the latest version of captivate and it came up with this error code attached. I unistalled it and reinstalled it to see if this resovled the solution which them came up with erorr code 103, i've tried multiple times to download and still comes up with the error code. I've restrated my PC as well and this hasn't helped either 

       

      Any help would be great?

      I'm unable to see the Install folder files when I download and so it won't open on my computer. Any suggestions?

      • What OS are you on?
      • Do you see any error message?

      For some reason, when I use the flip card widget I cannot resize the height. This is happening after I installed the new update. Is this a known issue? Can we expect it to be fixed soon? Attaching a screen recording of the issue.

        Update from Help menu just leads to an error and no way to start Captivate anymore.

        Be sure, I don't have Captivate Classic open on that system, because I know that it is impossible to start CP12 in that situation.

        I have already uninstalled, downloaded the update and reinstalled. The only problem is that soon I will get another call about my trial version. It is a loss of time for the people of the call center and myself, which is the reason I try to download a version. It worked fine from 12.0 to 12.1. This time it didn't work. I am still on Win10.
