Adobe Captivate 13.1.0 - Freezing when saving or opening projects

  • April 9, 2026

App freezes when opening or saving new or existing projects only when browsing file location.

  • Ability to open existing .cpt files not impacted when you open file directly from file location
  • Saving new or existing projects not impacted as long as you can specify file location in initial window
  • App freezes/completely non-responsive only when using the browse file location and the file explorer window opens. Only option to close is a force close from task manager.
  • OS: WIN 11 Pro 24H2 Build 26100
  • App version: Captivate 13.1.0.189
  • Saving to local file and not a cloud sync location isn’t working
  • Clean uninstall/reinstall didn’t resolve

Any ideas?

Hi @Still Loading ,

Please try below steps:

  • Close CP 13.1 and any error message related to software if opened on the scree. Now click on the start menu. (Windows icon)
  • Search for and then click on "File Explorer Options"
  • In the opened dialog, under "General" tab, click on the bottom-right button "Clear", which is next to "Clear File Explorer History"
  • Now Launch CP 13.1 and check.

If you still face issue please drop an Emcaptivatehelp@adobe.com and we will reach out to you.

I’m having the same issue with 13.1. I tried the first two options to no avail. The last ioption is not availible to me (dang IT). I did not have this problem with 13.0 and it just started with 13.1. The file I am trying to save in a specifc location was orginally built in 13.0. Not sure if that helps troublshoot the issue but thought I’d mention it.

It does work with new 13.1 files but anything I built before 13.1 doesn’t work, it just locks up and I have to task manger and end task

I opened the File that kept locking up(one I built originally in 13.0) and copied the slides and put them in a new project (13.1) and then could save and publish without issue.

I don’t have a solution, but I have a similar problem. It also freezes when I try to navigate to a different folder to add artwork or audio. I’ve been forced to resort to keeping everything in the same folder and then moving it once a project is complete. I also save after almost every slide to avoid losing work. It’s quite time-consuming on large projects.

  • OS: Windows 11 Homee, 10.026200
  • App version: Captivate 13.1.0.189
  • Have the app set to run as administrator - did not solve
  • Clean uninstall/reinstall did not resolve

Adobe Support provided three possible solutions. The first solution worked for my case. Hopefully one of them will work for you.

Suggestion 1:

  • Close all the Adobe applications
  • Go to "C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Adobe\Adobe Captivate"
  • Rename the folder from "13_0" to "13_0.old"
  • Relaunch Adobe Captivate, create a new Test project, and try to save it.

Suggestions 2:

  • Close all the Adobe applications.
  • Go to "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Adobe"
  • Rename the folder from "Adobe Captivate" to "Adobe Captivate_old"
  • Rename the folder from "eLearning Assets" to "eLearning Assets_old"
  • Relaunch Adobe Captivate, create a new Test project and try to save it.

    If the issue persists:
    if issue persist>>

please give read and write permissions to the Adobe Folders to the end user profile and then check.

I’ve tried the first two solutions without success. I’m not able to try the third option because I cannot adjust to allow read/write access to any of the folders. The option is greyed out for me when I try to adjust permissions.
