Adobe Captivate 4 - Flash Not Installed Error

We are using Adobe Captivate 4 on Windows 7.  Since the Microsoft Windows Updates around January 8, we are unable to open Adobe Captivate 4.  We get the message that the Flash Player is to be installed and the application shuts down after the message that an Internet connection is required.  I have followed the steps on the Adobe Help page:  Error: "Adobe Flash Player is not currently installed" when you start Adobe Captivate with no success.  I have even uninstalled Adobe Captivate 4, reinstalled it and followed the instructions on the aforementioned Help page.  No luck.  I am running Firefox and Internet Explorer and IE is the default browser.  Adobe Captivate 4 acts as though it cannot connect to the Adobe Flash website, but I already have the most current Flash Player installed.  We use Adobe Captivate 4 primarily for Quizzes since we can effectively e-mail the results to trainers. We do have Adobe Captivate 7 and the Quiz Results e-mail feature does not send the results; only a blank e-mail shell.  Is there any solution to this Captivate 4 problem?

I had the same issue - here is what I figured out from visiting just about every site (shout out to "Dan" who had the most info and got me in the right direction)!

I have Adobe Captivate 4 successfully running on Windows 7 Enterprise  / Service Pack 1 / 32 bit OS

    • (1) Create a desktop folder called “Adobe Captivate 4 – Flash Player”. You’ll be using it a lot in these instructions.
    • (2) Download Adobe Captivate 4 compatible Flash:
      1. Go to https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html
      2. Navigate to:
        • section: 'Flash Player archives - Release and Content Debugger archives'
        • file: '(Released 9/9/2014) Flash Player 15.0.0.167 (Win IE only) (33.78 MB)'
      3. Download it and extract zip files to desktop folder (Adobe Captivate 4 – Flash Player)
    • (3) Uninstall current version of Flash
      1. It isn't good enough to uninstall using add/remove programs.
You have to use the adobe uninstaller, so go to:
        https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html#main_Download_the_Adobe_Flash_Player_uninstaller … and click download.
      2. Move download file to desktop folder (Adobe Captivate 4 – Flash Player)
      3. Go to desktop folder (Adobe Captivate 4 – Flash Player)
      4. Close all explorer instances (e.g.: IE8, Chrome, etc.)
      5. Run the uninstall_flash_player.exe
    • (4) Install Flash:
      1. Go to desktop folder (Adobe Captivate 4 – Flash Player)
      2. Make sure all explorer instances are still closed
      3. Open the 15_0_r0_167 file
      4. Run the flashplayer15_0r0_167_winax.exe

boni k's solution worked perfectly, thanks so much for the instructions and links.

How to get this marked as "correct answer"?

Is it even relevant anymore, after more than three years?

The user who provided the correct answer hasn't even logged in since he/she did that in 2015.

    Let it go.

Captivate 4 is over 5 years old, and that is really 'old'. You'll need to downgrade to Flash Player 9.

Unfortunately, that is not an option.   I work for a state government and the computers are locked down for security reasons.  Updates are handled by an IT group and pushed out to all state computers.  We were running Flash Player 10 and everything worked fine until the Flash Player Update was pushed out as a Microsoft Update on January 8th.  There have been subsequent "Security Updates" to the Flash Player pushed out via Microsoft and none have corrected the problem.  Even if I could uninstall the current Flash Player and install an older version, it would just be updated to the current Flash Player tonight.
