Advanced Action/Conditional Action/1 button 3 states close and change

I am looking to see if it is possible to have one button and when user clicks on the button it goes to the next state.  (Although I want them to be able to close the pop up state and when they click on the same button again for the second time a different state shows up and they have the ability to close that pop up state and when the user click on the same button again for the third time they get the third state.

I know you can use the Next State- Although if you click the same button it closes the state and when you click again it goes back to the first state.

I want user to click one button change state to  State 1 -Have the ability to close that state.

User clicks same button as above and change to state 2- Have the ability to close that state.

User clicks the same button as above and change to state 3- Have the ability to close that state.

I do not see how I can do this with only one button.  Is this possible?

Thank you for your reply, yes  I understand where you are at in not being able to post here.

I do realize and want my state to go back to normal and have the user be able to go back to normal and be able to close the state and the next time they click the next state would come up. Still using only one button.  My problem is I cannot figure out how to do this without using a variable and since I am only using one button this is where I am struggling.

I understand what you want. The other question that once popped up was to have the choice between clicking a button for a specific state (1, 3... or by name) and having both Next State and Previous State buttons. You'll need a variable indeed, but want to set up a scenario in detail for both use cases which are about states. You'll have to be patient, want first to finish my article about Pausing Captivate's Timeline.

There is some confusion here.  Each object has always at least the Normal state, you cannot just pop out of a state, you have to go to another state. You would need an alternation of Go to Next state and Change state to normal. But I know that The Go to Next state is not available in the dropdown command list for Advanced actions.  I have an idea how to solve this, want to combine it with the answer on another state question in a blog post. Sorry not to post the solution immediately here. With the tip I gave you before, maybe you can figure it out (let me know in that case). Not posting for two reasons: I never post such a scenario without trying it out myself. Second reason: lately several of my ideas were stolen and posted somewhere without paying credit. You cannot blame me that I'm very frustrated about such non-ethical behavior.
