Question

advanced action for dummies

this is what I need - just a very simple, clear-language step-by-step instruction - I haven't found it.  I've read blogs, watched you tube videos trying to explain it, I havee "elearning uncovered for captivate, and still, I just don't get how to create a simple advanced action. Every person who explains it seems to assume I know what a variable is and how I would link an object to a variable. All I need to do is have two actions for a click box. I want it to trigger an effect, and display the success caption and proceed to next slide (after pausing for success caption). But I'm lost. I  just to set up need one condition (user clicks on a particular click box), but I have no idea how to set up that condition. There's not a single explanation that I've come across that is understandable to me.  - What's a variable? What woudl it be equal to? Is there something wrong with my brain? any help would be really appreciated! (i'm using captivate 9)

It is very old, but pretty long explanation only about Variables, without talking about advanced actions:

Curious about Variables in Captivate? - Captivate blog

Although, since you tell that none of the articles you read were understandable (you probably bumped onto my blog already), wonder if reading an article, or watching a video is fitting your learning style?

Thank you Lieve! I'll read it - and thank you for your blog - it's very helpful! I'm an elearning newbie - been creating captivate projects (through my job in non-profit adult ESL sector), but shied away from advanced actions because I get so confused. With your help, as well as RobWards and atone_x (who posted a helpful short process) responses to my post, I think I'll be able to see my way through it. Thank you all!

    Hi,

Hopefully, I'm not too late. I attached step-by-step instructions. I tried to upload the Captivate file, but it's not an acceptable file format on this site (Imagine that!). Let me know if you want the project file and I'll email it to you directly.

Thanks so much!! Really wonderful and generous that you did this!! It looks so clear, and it's short (good for my brain). I'll be trying it tomorrow.

Master the Art of Captivate's Advanced Actions | Infosemantics Pty Ltd

Download the free first 50 pages and see if it's what you want.  It only covers up to Captivate 7, not anything added to Advanced Actions since then, but since you know currently little about the topic, it should be a good primer.
