Advanced interaction within Captivate module

Hello,

Can anyone advice if it is possible to create something like the example below using Adobe Captivate?

Here’s an example of where we’re aiming

We’re looking for a freelance Adobe Captivate whizz to work with us on building some interactive, mixed media digital learning experiences that are SCORM compliant. We’re a small team and we need some expertise in helping us scale our current classroom based offerings to a wider audience online. Whilst we have some in-house expertise to create video, graphics, copy writing etc, we are lacking the expertise to pull all of these elements together in an authoring tool.

We’re hoping to change perceptions within our business around the value e-learning can bring, and the way in which it is presented. Whilst we know this is built outside of a conventional e-learning authoring tool, and not SCORM compliant, we’re looking for someone who can create experiences like this, using Adobe Captivate. The functionality, interactivity and level of customisation is really key to us delivering exceptional content.

Many thanks!

I had a look, but that is a website.... not interactive eLearning.

This can be developed with Muse, Dreamweaver or even with InDesign (ePub). My personal view on eLearning is totally different from a scrollable website with some inserted media. Are you sure this is what you want to develop?

Hi Lilybiri,

Thanks for your reply!

Based on research, this type of content is what our users would like to see. We are aware that we can do similar staff as a stand-alone webpage. To assess all options, we'd love to find out whether it is possible to create an e-learning course with similar experience in Captivate or to understand how close the experience can be in the course, created within Captivate.

Do you know if Captivate has functionality to build a course as a long scrollable infographics with interactions?

No, that is the basic problem. In Captivate you can create a normal project, which has a fixed screen resolution for all slides. In the eLearning world scrolling is not encouraged at all, since the sequence of the learning is based on interactivity with the learner: when the learner has done what is expected, the course can automatically proceed to the next screen.

You can publish such a project as scalable, which means that it would fit any screen resolution with the same width/height ratio.

Have a look at my interactive presentation inlcuded in this blog post as an example. It is not really a learning module, but this is a rescalable project meant to be viewed on a screen in landscape format:

Timeline - Advanced Workflows - Captivate blog

It is embedded as an iFrame in this post, but I provide also a link which you can use to watch on any device.

Second possible workflow is to create a responsive project, where the layout can be different depending on the screen (or better browser) resolution. There are two workflows for such a project, Fluid Boxes (with a fixed widh/height ratio) and Breakpoint views. In the last case it is possible to change the slide height for some slides, so that they'll become scrollable. Again: for a real eLearning course this is not considered good practice at all.

Maybe this clarifies my first answer: what you have in mind are not eLearning courses but a website providing information in a pleasant, well-designed way. For that reason I proposed to look for other applications.

As a side note: your subject title is very confusing, because Captivate is capable of real interactivity, not the kind you showed in the example. Having content arranged in tabs and adding media, with some buttons to click is not what I understand (as a former professor) as the best learning experience.
