After pptx import, the slides are visually ruined/corrupted

Hi,

I'm very new to Captivate. I am trying to import PPTX slides that I made into AC.
The first 3 slides look fine after import, but the last 4 get corrupted. They have huge circles covering the slide and I don't know how to fix this issue.

I tried copying and then reworking the slides that import fine, but as soon as I change the content, the slide gets corrupted in the same way.

I tried changing the style of bullet points to see if that does anything, but that also did not helo.

Same happened to me when trying to upload another designer's PPT. My fix was to save the PPT as PNG images and upload those instead. This particular project was just a click-through, so I did not try to build interactions. Hope that helps as a short term fix.

It looks like you may have added one or more shape objects (the big brown circles) to one of the slides, or to one of the master slides that form the Theme.

I suggest you first inspect the Master Slides to see if you can find the offending shapes there. If you can, then change the affected slides to a different (preferably blank) master slide.

If you cannot find the shape on any Master Slide then it may be on one of the normal slides but set to be timed for Rest of Project. Either way, to get rid of it you have to find the slide that contains the offending shape and then remove it.

A big problem is that the default Theme in CP2019 has NO Blank master slide which is very weird IMO. I asked about it but never got an answer from the team. Both PPT import and Software sims are using that Blank master slide, which by default never inherited objects from the main master slide. One of the reasons I asked which theme was used and if it had been edited.

To be honest, I never use PPT import which is IMO not a very good feature in Captivate. It is a much better idea to start from scratch if you want to create real eLearning (not a presentation which has a different goal). Captivate has a project library, by unzipping the PPT file you can extract assets to be imported to the project library.

I had a look at the screenshots but don't see what you want to explain by them. I would for sure check the feature 'Maintain aspect ratio' in the Import dialog box, because differences in size are for sure one of the problems with importing a PPT.

Captivate is theme based. The master slide in the theme is not important because normall the Blank master slide is used for PPT import. But the object styles are very important. Which theme did you use? What are the theme fonts? Since Captivate will have a HTML output (which is in reality a highly interactive website) you need to use websafe or Adobe fonts. When changing the bullets for the (dead by the bullet) lists did you do that by creating a new style or editing an existing style? I hope you didn't override object styles too much.

Not a good solution, but one way to complete the project would be to create a copy of the PPTX and change the file extension to .zip. Open the file (double click should do it), find a folder called, I think "Media" and extract all objects in it. Now you have the individual parts from which the PPT was created and you can rebuild the slides piece by piece. At least you now have items that help repair the damaged project.

Sorry to disagree, but a PPTX folder IS a zipped folder, you can extract the content. And I mentioned to use those assets. Please read my answers carefully.
