Aggregator and SCORM

Hi -

I'm working on a big project that has to be SCORM 1.2 conformant. The project comprises 4 Captivate mods and 1 final quiz. I've zipped all of the individual mods and need to use aggregator to combine them. However, Aggregator in Captivate 5 does not generate a manifest file.

When I combine all of the course slides into one big project, it crashes, so I really need to use aggregator to make it work.

Thanks for your help.

Excellent! So just to be clear so I can explain it to the client - the Multi-SCORM packager will generate a TOC enabling users to navigate from one module to the next?  And does the TOC match the style of the TOC in the first module?

Thanks so much for your help!

No, you've misunderstood slightly.

As I mentioned before, it's your LMS (not Captivate) that uses the details in the imsmanifest.xml to build a set of links in it's SCORM player that will allow the participant to navigate to each of the modules contained in the MULTI-SCO package.  That's the only TOC you'll see in the LMS that allows you to navigate to each lesson.  What that TOC in the player will look like varies from one LMS to the next, but they are usually quite plain.  Some are not much more than a set of hyperlinks.  That's the world of SCORM.

However, if you have set each individual lesson up with it's own TOC to navigate to slides WITHIN the lesson, those will still work once the lesson is playing.

What you need to use is not Agrregator but the Multi-SCORM Packager.  Unfortunately, this only comes with Captivate 4 or the ELS 2.0 suite, not with Captivate 5 alone.

Hi - thanks for getting back to me. I have the e-learning suite and the multi-scorm packager. Our client wants the different modules to appear as one module. Can I do this with the multi-scorm packager? Do I link to the different courses by linking to the HTM files for each course. I'm new to Captivate, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Jill

To use the Multi-SCORM packager you have to first publish each of the 4 modules as individual zipped SCORM modules, with the proper SCORM settings for your LMS.  (You should verify what these settings need to be with some small test modules before building the entire course.)

The second step is to bundle all of the zipped SCORM modules together using the Multi-SCORM packager.  You don't 'point' to anything.  You basically just import all of the zipped SCORMs into the packager and specify their order, and the name of the final package.  Captivate will create an appropriate imsmanifest.xml file for the entire package that lists all the component SCOs, and then zips them all up into one big zipped SCORM again.

You can then import this SCORM into your LMS and set it up as a course. Your LMS will play the modules in its own SCORM player, using the details in the imsmanifest.xml file to build a navigation menu with links to each module.

If this is not what your client wanted, then they don't understand how a SCORM-compliant LMS works.
