Question

AICC and Plateau LMS

It is my understanding that the files produced on publishing from Captivate for AICC compliance are to be linked in to the wrapper frameset - and that the html page produced is the file linked to within the frameset. It needs to be located correctly within the LMS system with its associated files in order to work?

Is it reasonable to assume that the person using the LMS system should know how to do this?

We trying to produce flash e-learning content for a client using Plateau - but I have never even seen it, and don't reckon the chances of success are high

If you are simply importing SWFs created in Flash, Captivate has no way of "tracking" those. Captivate can only track completion of things it has created itself (click boxes, buttons, question slides).

If memory serves, you need to add a minimum of two scorable objects in Captivate. You don't need to actually report a score for the objects, they are just needed to "start" and "stop" the tracking process. That way, if you turn on AICC reporting, Captivate will have something to report about.

FYI - I have read in these forums that bookmarking can be problematic, at least with SCORM. I don't know if the issue is also true of AICC. I want to say the problem is that Captivate bookmarks the last slide when a user completes a course, meaning users are taken straight to the end if they return. Don't quote me on that one, though... I could be completely wrong on that point, so try it for yourself and see if it works for you.

Thank you for your response.

Well we built the e-learning module in flash proper and then found out about the AICC LMS integration. We are now trying Captivate to see if it will help us do the job.

I have split the single module swf into separate page swfs, that i then imported into Captivate and re-added the navigation buttons.

Since this morning the files I published from Captivate have been successfully added to the LMS system, (without the frameset,) but no data is being tracked. The primary function the client requires is bookmarking, so when you exit mid module you are returned to the page you exited from on return. There is no quiz interactivity as the client is doing this separately. So I am hoping to track the navigation buttons as a way of tracking user progress through the module.

As a slight (!) complication, this is a joint product. one client is using an LMS the other isn't. The one that isn't has a basic quiz, that e-mails the results to a.person. client 2 has now decided that they would like to use the quiz too, as they are missing out on some of what client 1 has, but they don't want this score tracked or anything, just to reinforce the learning. I am currently planning to link from the captivate project swf to the flash aicc frameset quiz, rather than rebuilding the quiz in captivate.

My head really hurts now ;D

thanetm,

It's very difficult to determine what you are asking...

Captivate files do NOT need to be linked in a wrapper frameset. As long as
the Captivate content is hosted on the same domain as the LMS there aren't
any problems just importing and launching the content from an LMS using the
files generated from Captivate "as-is". If the Captivate files aren't in
the same domain, there are other solutions and creating and using a frameset
is one of them.

How are you "produc[ing] flas e-learning content"? Using Captivate or
Flash-proper?

Regards,

Andrew
