AlphaFromTo effect not holding the "to" state

Using Captivate 6 on Mac OS X. I'm using the AlphaFromTo effect to change the alpha from 100% down to 25% in the space of 1 second. The transition does occur, however as soon as the 1 second is over the image immediately returns to 100% alpha for the rest of the slide. Is that the way AlphaFromTo is supposed to work?

The "Alpha" and the "Set Alpha" effects don't seem to do anything at all.

Would appreciate any ideas!

This is still a problem in Captivate 2017 in my work. I found a workaround in case it helps anyone: Use Fade Out instead of Alpha From To, because the latter flickers and doesn't stay at the end alpha. Steps:

1. Duplicate the image and put it under the original image; set the duplicated image to the end alpha (e.g., 20%).

2. In Timing, adjust the original image to fade out in desired display time and fading speed (e.g., display for 2 seconds, fade out in 1 second).

That's all. For me this worked better than setting the duplicate image to appear later, which may cause a jump in alpha.

I think it's still not working correctly in 2019 version.

I've just started using Captivate about 6 months ago and I was trying to create a better Accordion function than the widget. I was able to get the movement of the buttons but could not get the text boxes to fade out and not reappear. I was getting very very frustrated.

So finally, I realized that (again, I'm still getting use to Captivate), text boxes also have states.

So for a text box I created 2 states, one state that is blank and another state that has the text or the variable for the text.

For the Fade In effect:

1st line Apply Effect AlphaFromTo 0 to 100

2nd line Change State of textbox to the state where the text is displayed

For the Fade Out Effect

1st line Apply Effect AlphaFromTo 100 to 0

2nd line Change State of textbox to the state that is blank

This seems to work seamlessly.

THis is a very old thread, will lock it now.

I just want to pop in because your solution is not OK: if you use an advanced action with two commands like you posted, everything i s executed without any waiting time, result will be that the text container will immediately revert to the blank stae, no transition time at all.

Moroever you need an event to trigger that action, if you insert at least Delay next acttions between the two lines.

You need a custom effect, where the Alpha From To is followed by an Alpha effect, use the timeline, no need for an action in that case.

I agree with your, Phillip Morton! It is insane that Adobe hasnt fixed this yet.

My work around, being left here, is for anyone else that might deal with this problem and need help:

In my example, I needed to have an object fade from 100% to 15, in 4 seconds, and then hold the 15% alpha through the end of the slide, another 8 seconds.

The first image, I would set to have AlphaFromTo for 100 to 15, over 4 seconds. I set the entire image to only exist on my slide for 4 seconds. Then I duplicate the image, place it directly on top, and have it appear at the 4 second mark. I then set a new animation for the duplicated slide, Alpha at 15% for the rest of the slide, and then some. So I would make the Alpha 15%, and then have the change last 9 seconds, even though the slide only has 8 seconds left. This ensures that the change does not happen for the slide, and the image stays faded for the whole slide, as I intended.

I hope that this helps someone.

This is ridiculous.. still not fixed in Captivate 9.

I've tried your workaround Yannick and unfortunately doesn't work . I've got a line of icons that in line with a voice over fade into prominence. The weird thing is that in the preview in captivate it works, but as soon as you view it in the Web Browser it goes all buggy.
