Question

Any new captions I create, or old ones I edit have a pink background during editing

Ok, so here's a bit of a poser.  When I create a new caption (using directions here: http://www.raisingaimee.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=21&Itemid=29) or edit a older existing caption once I save it and bring it into Captivate, I end up with a pink/purple background during editing, and it automatically selects the same color for the highlight.  I can change the highlight, but the rest of the box besides the text is still pink.  It's functional, works correctly when published, but....it's pink.  Our writer is slowly going mad staring at all the pink for hours on end.  I've attached a screenshot sample below.

On a related note, I'm really hoping Captivate 5 is going to a) fix the issue with fuzzy text in transparent captions (the reason I created this in the first place) and b) is going to allow for non .bmp files to be used as captions.

See my last comment for how it was resolved.

Ok, so I took a callout with a blue border and trimmed that off so that it was all white, saved and the purple/pink background showed during editing.  I then changed the top left pixel from color code ffffff (white) to fffff0 (damn near identical white).  As far as I can tell it's not a transparent (or faked out transparent) callout, but since it's white on white it works and I see none of the fuzziness that is well known when using [transparent].  Good enough for now, and hoping Cap5 fixes the [transparent] caption so we can all stop the workarounds.

Hi there

Sounds like you are attempting to create something that is a transparent caption. Normally the color appearing in the upper leftmost pixel is used for the transparent color.

If you don't like the anti-aliasing, try placing the cursor at the end of the line of text and pressing Enter a couple of times. Then apply a bullet to the bottom line. Size the caption so you don't see the bullet.

Rick,

Yeah I suggested the bullet trick and was shot down by our writer.  So I'm between a rock and a hard place as far as that part goes.  Now though I'm curious as to wy I'm getting the pink background on any custom caption I make.  I would think something like this would show up in a google search, so I'm pretty sure it's just me having this issue, but it's puzzling the heck out of me.  Where does CP4 determine what color to use for the background of a slide while editing, and why does it come up pink?

Hi again

You can control the anti-aliasing on a global scale via Edit > Preferences.

Slide color is controlled either at the slide level itself (examine Slide Properties) and you can also set a default color in Preferences so that if you click Insert > Blank Slide it has a defined color.

It's common for folks to use the hot pink color as a transparent color. I just figured that you were configuring that color in the bitmap image you were creating for the caption. If you haven't done this, I'm unsure where the color may be coming from. Are you using a Bitmap Image in BMP format for the Caption? If not, perhaps you are using PNG or something like that and Captivate may be interpreting a transparent color set in the PNG. Not sure.

Cheers... Rick
