AS2 swfs in Gallery incompatible with AS3 publish

Hi Folks-

I have created a Captivate 4 project which includes many swf animations taken from the gallery.  These work great when I publish in AS2; however, I need to include a Zoomify swf which uses AS3 causing the project to require AS3.  Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Thanks for your help.

Rita

I think that would be an "epic fail" as well Rick ;o) (nice expression)

Generally speaking you can put it like this:

Some AS2 files will work fine in AS3 projects. It really depends on how complex the code is and if it uses any of the "old" instance and procedure calls. Normally simple animations etc will work fine.

99% of AS3 files will not work in AS2 projects. This is because the code structure is totally different from AS2 so the "engine" wouldn't know what to do with it.

As Rick said you really need to keep it straight - either you use all AS3 files or you use all AS2 files.

    Hi Rita

Unfortunately I don't think you can freely mix and match AS2 and AS3. I think it's like fuel. For example, you can drive your car to the gas station but if it burns gasoline or petrol, you cannot put diesel in it and expect it to work. Or vice-versa.

If you have an AS3 SWF that needs to be added I believe everything else needs to be AS3 as well.

I have no clue if this will help to get you out of the pickle, but one thing you may wish to try is to create a simple single slide Captivate project and insert your AS3 item into it. Publish it as a SWF. Then drop it into the other captivate as an animation. I'm guessing that will simply result in epic fail, but it certainly won't hurt to try.

    Cheers... Rick

    Michael and Rick-

Thank you.  On first ttry my AS2 animations didn't seem to work in AS3 or maybe I just got tripped up on the message that they may not work.  Anyway, my simple animations, green tick and some little movies published as swfs from Proshow Producer work fine iwhen published in AS3.

    Best regards,

    Rita
