Audio box not appearing in Captivate 6

Hi there,

I am working in Captivate 6 and am trying to record narration.I have bought a Samson Meteor USB mic for this purpose.

For the past hour, I am been trying unsuccessfully to add audio to this project. I right click on the slide, select "Record to..." and then it's as if I have a dialogue box open because all I hear is that sound that accompanies opened dialogue boxes (I am using Windows XP).

I have tried multiple ways to add audio but to no avail. I always have to close the project using the Task Manager (although it does not say my project is unresponsive).

Can anyone help me with this? Could it be my microphone?

I look forward to any help anyone can give me!

Sincerely,

Cristina

If it helps, these are my settings -

Odd, normally the Windows key + Left arrow does the trick for that issue.

To clear prefs, one easy way is to close Captivate, locate the shortcut icon used to launch it and right-click the icon. You should see a button in the Shortcut Properties to "Open File Location". If it's enabled and clickable, click the button.

If the button for whatever reason is disabled, just copy the text from the Target area to grab the path.

The end goal here is to open Windows Explorer where the application is installed. These are just easy ways to do it.

Once there, you should see a folder named Utils. Open it up!

Inside this folder you should find a file named CleanPreferencesWin.bat (it may simply read CleanPreferencesWin depending on how your Windows is configured).

Run that file and restart Captivate.

Hi Rick,

I saw your post and was so hopeful.. however, no, it didn't work

I have a full-time and part-time job creating online modules. My full-time job uses Captivate 8 and I spent all this week recording narration.my part-time job uses Captivate 6... which is giving me so much trouble.

I am genuinely at a loss. I thought maybe it was something in my file settings so I opened up a blank project and I am still getting the same thing.

Do you have any other ideas? Could it be a computer setting of mine?

Cristina

Hi there

Perhaps a less invasive approach would involve pressing the Windows key on your keyboard, holding it, then pressing the left arrow key a few times.

Maybe the dialog is sitting off screen. If so, that should coax it into the viewable area.

Cheers... Rick

Close Captivate. Clear your preferences and cache. Launch Captivate and try again.
