Question

Audio on quiz response blocks causing long delay advancing to next question

Maybe I am being too clever by half.

Enterprise requirement is to have all training accessible for visually impaired.

In my case, this includes adding a VO to the Quiz slides in Captivate 2019 "Classic".

The VO is not proving to be a problem. But when I add Audio to the "Correct" and "Incorrect" response blocks - and these blocks are several words long giving the reason for the correct or incorrect response - "click anywhere or press 'y' to continue" involves a significant amount of time, not an immediate move to the next question.

It acts like the slide is playing audio after all the audio has been played, but there is no sound. Just no action until several seconds go by before the next quiz question appears.

Is there as "correct" way to add audio the "correct" and "incorrect" prompt boxes so the move to the next quiz question is immediate?

Many thanks!

You didn't tell which exact version of Captivate you are using.

Audio attached to an object (feedback captions) will start to play when the object appears.

The VO are probably slide audio.

Each quiz slide has a pausing point set by default at 1.5 seconds. You cannot change that point in the Timing properties as is possible for interactive objects. That pausing point will pause all visual object from appearing but will NOT pause slide audio. The playhead will remain paused at 1.5seconds.

Did you extend the timing of the feedback captions?

To decrease the waiting time, you can:

    • drag the pausing point to the right, but you'll have to do a bit trial and error testing to have the object audio attached to the feedback captions play completely
    • If you didn't have that the feedback audio, you could also change the Success/Last Attempt actions to 'Go to Next Slide' instead of Continue.

Have a look at this screenshot:

Because the playhead remains at 1.5secs, even after the slide audio has finished, if the learner submits the answer, and you leave the actions at Continue, the learner will have to wait 4 seconds before the end of the slide is reached.

Thank you! My Captivate Classic is 11.5.5.553.

I had hopes that Paul Wilson had solved my probem with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iNRzP5--6M, but this approach only works with buttons on a quiz slide and not with the automated response fields that don't hold Advanced Actions.
