Audio problems when publishing, tried it all...

Hi all,

I'm working on a Windows XP machine for Vodafone in the Learning & Development department.

We've been working with Captivate for a year now, as a replacement for ViewletBuilder.

So far, so good.

One thing I can not accomplish is to publish a captivate with audio imported in it.

We have a license for Captivate 3.

The situation:

I record my captivate without audio.

When that is done I want to add a pre-recorded audiofile to a slide.

I tried that via all kind of ways.

The one that is working for me is through pcm wave files.

But when either published (to swf or executable) or previewed through F4 there is no audio.

Ther audio plays in the slide editting screen.

I read several topics, but none of them gave the solution.

What I tried allready:

Checked the marker for including audio.

Downloaded the Captivate 4 trial - same result

Replaced the dll file for Captivate 4 - same result

I can't think of anything next. Hopefully you can...

Kind regards, Jeroen

I had a similare problem with Captivate 3, and there were

no real technical issues, just a learning curve.

I had attached the sound file to an IMAGE that was functioning as the "backdrop" of the slide.  I describe it this way so that you don't misconstrue this with a background image created when recording, or by selecting a background from the library.  In essence, I had a blank slide, and pasted a graphic object on it, running it full screen.

I use the right click/shortcut method to add audio, and usually just right click on the slide.  In the case of the slide with the graphic object, the right click selected the object, then added the audio to the object file instead of to the slide.  This audio was never rendered during a preview, or after production.  Maybe it SHOULD and didn't, but I never chased that problem down... I just removed the audio and properly added it to the slide properties.

To avoid this situaiton, right click on the border around your slide to select slide properties.  This will assure that you don't add audio to the properties of any given object.

Not sure if this is the issue with your audio problem, but certainly worth a try.

    Good Luck!

    Hi Captive_ater,

I tried to add sound exactly as you described. It does add the sound. It does play when previewing the slide (F3) but still NO sound when previewing the project (F4) or when published...

    Thanks for the input anyway!

    Hello,

Since often the most obvious is overlooked: in the Project, Publish settings, is 'Include audio' selected?

    Hi there

    I'm a simpleton at heart.

Have you tried ensuring that the speaker icon isn't muted?

    Cheers... Rick

I'm sure that isn't the case, because when I hit the little play button on the left of it, the audio is hearable.

But always a good thing to check the basics
