Basic Effects in Captivate 9

Hi all

I'm still pretty new to Captivate 9 and one of the things I've found the most puzzling is the basic effects. I get the motion paths, the entrance, emphasis and exits they all seem to work as expected. But the basic ones like 'Alpha to' or 'scale to' are the ones that are confusing as they don't behave in the way I'm expecting them.

For example in the screen shot I've attached I simply have a square with 2 x 'Scale To' effects applied to it. One at the beginning to scale to 2 for both the x and y and then one at the end to scale to 1 for both x and y.

So if I only apply the first 'Scale To' effect the square grows and then stays at the size it's scaled up to for the rest of the slide.

Therefore I'd expect it to be the same when I have the second 'Scale To' effect at the end. Then when the playhead hits that second 'Scale To' effect it would scale to the set x and y in this case 1. So essentially the square would grow to stay at that size until it gets to the second effect and then shrink to the original size.

But it doesn't work like this, instead it seems to grow to the size set in the first Scale To effect. then slow start to shrink to the size set in the second Scale To effect before the playhead even gets to that effect to trigger it.

I've noticed similar inconstancies with things like Alpha to... where as scale to scales to a set size and keeps the object at that set size, Alpha to doesn't.

Am I misunderstanding how they're supposed to work?

Yeah I'm on version 9.0.2.437

This is working little bit better, but still the zooming back happens too quick. I will log another bug, already logged the one for SWF output where combination of scaling and motion path is going awry:

The Scale is static, set to 2 both for X and Y

I've just tried both and then also tried it in SCORM Cloud as well and it does the same. There's no pause of movement between 1 - 3 seconds.

Are you on 9.0.2.437? I will try it out, only had issues with scaling in SWF output, when combined with a motion path.

All effects are relative to the present situation. If you want it to shrink to half its size, you need to use 0,5 for the second effect, not 1 which means to remain at its present size.

Alpha has always been quirky, show what you have at this moment.

Shrinking it to half it's size is not the problem. It works set at  1 .

But it's when the shape starts to shrink that is the issue.

Between 1 second and 3 seconds I'm expecting nothing to happen to the shape because there is no effect being triggered. But actually as soon as the playhead gets to 1 second it starts to trigger the effect on the timeline at 3 seconds.

That is what's confusing me.

How did you test exactly, and for which output?
