Basic end user system requirements

Hi,

I've authored some CBT modules in Captivate 4 utilizing cursor movement, audio, and video clip inserts. Most of my customers are viewing the 3-6 minute CBTs perfectly fine, but there are a few with performance issues. What should I advise my customers with these performance issues that the minimum system requirements should be, including Flash version, IE version, OS version, RAM, etc? Thanks in advance for your response.

Just encourage them to get onto the latest version of Flash Player that they can.  The vast majority of end users across the internet are running fairly recent versions of Flash Player (usually version 10 or better) but if you suspect that a large percentage of your specific target audience might be on older versions you can always try publishing for FP9 to cover yourself a bit.

IE version doesn't usually matter much as long as it is IE7 or better.  Obviously IE9 would be more ideal.  I build for corporate clients and many of them are still using IE7, yet my Cp5.5 courses still play fine as long as the FP version is 10 or better.

Your OS shouldn't matter much.  My corporate clients are on WinXp without issues.  Win7 is better if you can get it but you cannot really control this factor because upgrading is a significant expense for users and many don't have the technical expertise to do it themselves anyway.

Chip and RAM are also things you can't control too much.  Having said that, most entry level systems sold in the last 5 years or so should still be powerful enough to decode and play typical Captivate SWF content unless you are making heavy use of video and fast moving animation.
