Best format for importing clickable image

Hi All,

I am also creating a branching module.  The main menu image will need to be clickable, each of the topics on the image will take the user to a different slide.  What is the best format for importing this image into Captivate 8?  I have tried .jpg, .gif, .png, and .pptx.  The words on the slide appear blurry when I tried those formats. Is there another way of placing this image in Captivate so that I can format each of the topics on the menu to direct the user to the various slides?

Thanks,

Helena

The idea is to create the image at exact the resolution you will need it to be, unless you are able to create the image as a responsive SVG (in Captivate 9 only, excluded since you are still on CP8). Avoid rescaling, do not use scalable output. I would even recommend to have the different clickable parts as separate images which can be used as fill in a shape button with exactly the same resolution (size in pixels).

If you need transparency in the image, the only choice is PNG. GIF supports total transparency as well but is limited to 256 colors. JPEG quality can be very different, you don't tell which quality you used. PPTX is not an image format, I don't know why you include it at all.

You are talking about 'text', why not insert the text in Captivate instead of turning it into an image?

Thank you Lilybiri.  I like the idea of inserting the text.  To create it as a button, should I simply create a transparent button that covers the text and image which are related and make the button not visible in output?  There is branching and buttons for navigation, so how should I get rid of the playbar?  I don't think I will need the playbar at all in this project.

I talked about shape buttons: they can be 'filled' with an image, and moreover being used as a text container as well. I called them once the 'chameleons' of Captivate. To fill them with image, read my blog post with step-by-step tutorial:

Turn an Image into a Button - Captivate blog

When double-clicking on the shape button you can add text.

Hiding the playbar if it is for the whole project, use the Skin editor in the Project menu. Do not forget to turn off the borders as well, because the bottom border would keep the height needed for the playbar that is removed. Personally I very rarely use the playbar, always use custom navigation and buttons.
