Question

Best Practice for Importing Screen Shots?

I'm capturing 1024 x 768 screen shots resized to 790 x 555 BMP's (always keeping the aspect ratio) for import into Cp3 using Snag-It software but have never been satisifed with the quality of the images ... always a little blurry ... never crystal clear. My Cp3 files are often too large to use jpg's (75 - 100 slides). Any suggestions? All comments are welcome and appreciated, thank you.

Hello,

Just wondering why you do the captures in Snagit and not in Captivate, p.e. with manual capturing?

In Captivate: which Video quality do you use for the slides? You can check by using the right mouse button on the filmstrip (when in Editing view) or in Storyboard view. You could change from Standard (default quality) to perhaps Optimized, JPEG or Highest Quality and choose the one that is most appropriate. Of course this will increase the filesize, and since you are talking about 70-100 slides you are pushing CP3 to its maximum.

Are you doing the resizing before importing? Did you try to import and let CP do the resizing?

Just a couple of ideas, did not use CP3 since a while so I'm not sure everything is possible in that version.

Thanks Lilybiri,

I have multiple content owners (who are without Cp3 but use Snag-It) sending me screen shots to develop WBT's / CBT's ... I'm looking to communicate to these content owners best practices to ensure quality screen shot capture.

Thank you,

Brian

Hello Brian,

Understand now. I think you already gave good advice: certainly to have the screenshots at the same width-height ratio as you need it, and at a high resolution. BMP is normally all right (used for the backgrounds in CP) but I had good results for images with PNG-24 too. Did you try to change the Video quality of the slides already?
