Best way to go

Hi,

I am trying to decide which is the best way to go as I am a not yet up to speed [err, even in gear] with Scorm, LMS and aggregator.

To make sure you can give me the best advice, I'm afraid this is going to be a bit lengthy.

My concern is:

I am writing a set of world geography lessons for tourism students.

I have had a few false starts with bloated projects so now I have a fear of how large this could get, so I envisage...

a menu project linking to regional projects...meaning many projects published as .swf from .htm, all accessed from the main menu .swf

The sample below shows an extract from the West Europe project...Sorry it seems to have shrunk.

When the student moves the cursor over a country/capital/IATA code, a red

marker appears on the blank map, allowing the student to learn where that country is.

In this instance, the cursor would be over Holland/Netherlands..Amsterdam..AMS and the red marker is on the country on the green map

These actions occur for every country in the world....Oh Joy.

Equally, the student clicks on the red button next to the country name etc. and opens a link to the official tourism office website of that country.

This allows for assignment completion.

With each regional project there is a ten question quiz with email results.

On top of all of this, there is a links project with links to about 100l major tourism/travel websites....and so on

So, before I get too far into this, is the Menu project linking users to each regional project the way to go?

Thanks in advance,

I would definetly go for the menu page and then have "small" individual SWFs for each of the chapters. Otherwise you are going to end up with a massive project.

I took a look at what you have right now and it took quite a while to download the file on my 100mbit connection (although it could be because I'm located in Denmark). If you add all the other regions and continents to it then it would be massive and you would probably also end up with all kinds of weird problems with Captivate due to the size.

Also if I can give you a tip to your design:

    - It might be a good idea to use a standard template divided into sections (e.g. header, content, navigation/links) to ensure a consistent look and feel.

Also you need to figure out how you are going to deploy your finished course before you get much further. You mention SCORM and LMS so are you actually thinking of running your course in an LMS? If so then you really need to think about the structure of your course at this point so you will avoid having to redo most of it in the end.

Thanks for your prompt reply Michael.

The demo you looked at is approx 1.1meg, so it shouldn't be a major
"loading" time problem yet, but that is my major concern prompting the question.

I will definitely move to breaking the app down into the menu/small .swf

And yes, a template would be a good idea. Currently I am working on content so have overlooked design.  I am retired so

making changes is a chore but time is not of the essence.

Also, as with the VB effort, [below} I, like may others, am learning how to do, then doing....or correcting, but I will mend my ways.

I actually wrote this as an ,exe file in VB two years ago, took me 777, being 7 hours a day for 7days a week, for  7 months.

It started life as a training resource which tourism colleges bought.  I have my own one classroom college and suspect that

the days of bricks and mortar training are limited, hence my moving it an online resource and training course.

At this time I have no knowledge of Scorm or LMS so I will now get my head around them before going much further.

Again, thanks for your response, you have confirmed my nightmare scenario, so its time to wake up.

    Cheers

    Bill aka grandpa70.

Sorry, quick follow up, the post says links to 1001 web sites, should be 100, still who's counting!
