Black Screen Error in Captivate 7

I'm hoping someone can help me out.  I loaded a training course into Captivate 7 from powerpoint.  I was having no issues at all, but now all of a sudden when I run the course from Captivate through Internet Explorer it stops at a certain slide and just goes to a black screen.  I tried removing the slides and adding them back again but I get the same thing.  All of the settings look the same on the slides before and after the black one....anyone have any ideas??

Howdy, thanks again for your assistance...I checked the 'force republish all slides' box when republishing and I also added the trusted location for flash, but I'm still getting the black screen.

Please try these steps, or one of these:

  • Could you copy all slides from that project and paste them in a blank new project of same resolution, then publish and check that.

  • You can also hide few of the slides and publish in order to check which slide or object is corrupted.

To hide a Slide, right click on slide from the Filmstrip and click hide slide, then that slide will not be the part of the output. You can hide a group of slides or just one slide                at a time, and keep publishing to investigate for the corrupted slide.

  • Have you got all slides created from that Power Point Presentation?

If yes, then could you create a new Project from that Power Point Presentation and Publish that one, if that works in IE?

Thanks.

I'm working in Captivate 7 and I had to convert my projects to HTML5. When we uploaded them to our website, some projects worked fine and others were just a black screen. I know I had URL links in the projects that weren't working, so I wonder if that conflicted with Captivate and HTML5.

I took the URL links out, but I still got a black screen. I was searching for a resolution online and I came across this post. I just tested what a couple have mentioned above, to start a new project and paste the slides into it. I tried this to one project and it worked on our server!

Thanks for posting your issues and solutions, without it I would still be lost!

The "solution" I posted in September proved not to be reliable. I followed the advice to create a new project and copy all of the slides in, and that seems to have worked for me. Thank you!

I don't know how reliable this fix is, but it worked for me just now... I found that I had the pre-loader percentage set to 100%. When I reduced it to 25% the problem went away - at least for now! My project contains two SWF files within it. I've set all of them (including the 'container' project) to 25%. Hope it's that simple!

The pre-loader percentage is located in Publish Settings > Start and End.

Update 9/18/15: Encountered the black screen problem again, tried this solution again and by golly it worked again. So even though it sounds dubious, you might want to try it.

Wow! Thanks. This worked perfectly (fingers crossed that it stays "fixed.") Thanks, Mary!

Does your powerpoint have any external content?

Was this ever resolved? I am having the same issue. It appears for a second and then the black screen. I've done everything above and nothing is working.

Hi there,

Make sure Captivate 7 is updated to latest patch that is 7.0.1.237 (Help > Abput Adobe Captivate).

Have you tried to view your course in any other browser like Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome?

In which output format are you pubishing it? .swf or HTML 5? Are you able to preview the whole course using Captivate previewer?

Have you inserted any video or any other object on that slide from which it goes blank?

Thanks.

Thank you both for replying!  I do not have any video in this course and I did try removing and reimporting the slides again but got the same result.  When I publish the output format is SWF - which is what I have always done and never had an issue before.  When I click on Preview From this slide or the next 5 slides within captivate it will play just fine.  It's when I click preview In Web Browser that it goes to the black screen.  I haven't tried downloading a different browser like firefox, etc because this is for work and I can't download another browser.

Hi there,

Could you publish it again locally on your computer and check 'force re publish' all slides on the publish dialog box.

Then view the output in Internet Explorer.

Also add the trusted location in Flash Settings, and then view in Internet Explorer.

Check this article to add the trusted location in Flash: http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate-troubleshooting/how-to-set-up-flash-global-security

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to Adobe forums.

Do you have any video on that specific slide ?

Did you try to reimport all the slides from PowerPoint to Captivate ?

Please publish the project and check the actual output in a browser.

Rajeev
