Question

Branching

Hi,

I have a Captivate project which consists of an introduction, three how to's and a review. After the introduction I have created a slide with branching which allows the user to choose which of the how to's they view. However, I also want to create an option to let the project run from start to finish so that the user does not have to choose. So basically if the user clicks 'Run Full Demo' then the project should run from beginning to end and if they click a specific "How To" it should displays those slides and then return to the branching menu. Does any one have any advice on how to do this?

Thanks

Morven

This might not be possible using only Advanced Actions in Captivate.  The only way I can see it working is to have two versions of your course. One that works as a daisy chained group of modules, and the other where each module is set to reload a menu slide at the end.

You're coming up against a limitation that many Captivate users find when trying to push the boundaries of what this app can do...the need to have data persist outside a Captivate session.

You can have a slide at the end of your Intro section that offers users the choice as to where they go next, but when you click any of the options (e.g. to Play All) you really want the next movie that gets loaded to know what you did in the last movie.  This requires data to remain or "persist" from one loaded file to the next.  In a typical web development scenario this is done via cookies that store data in the user's browser cache, which can be fished out by later files that know where to look.

Captivate doesn't have a function that allows you to do this out of the box.  It's something we really need to look into for Cp6 as it's cropping up all the time now.

I would advise you send us an enhancement request

Am I correct in assuming that you want the user to be able to run individual modules one at a time by clicking individual menu links that return the user back to the menu afterward, or click another link that runs all modules as a daisy chained group?

    Hi ,

I understood your Issue , what you can do here that you can go to the slide proper ties and branch it to your desired slide if its your First page then select properties go to in ACTION select on EXIT .. Jump to slide and select your slide Id and it would work out for you ,it would Brach you slides together and you would be ableto jump to your slides or Loop them .

And alternatively you can add an button and put the same properties to it!

    and that would work.

    hopefully this works..

    thanks,
