Branching Logistics - Captivate 2017

I have a course where users fall within five Roles. From the main screen, I want each user to select the Role to which they belong (branching). As I see it, there are two ways to accomplish this. The first way is to make each of the five Roles a separate project. From the main Role selection screen, a click box action is "Open another project" to each of the five.

Alternatively, I believe I can create a Slide Group for each of the five Roles. The click box action on the main screen then would be to the first slide of each Group, and all slides reside in the same project.

I am not including a TOC and I am not using a playbar/skin. All navigation buttons will be custom.

Captivate Experts:  Of these, which would you say is preferable? Or is there another method to branching that I haven't thought of. I have searched this eLearning Community re branching and the last example was some six years ago! Before I go down this path, would love to hear feedback from anyone familiar with branching.

Thanks!

Some information is lacking. Will you create a SCORM project, a project that will be uploaded to a LMS and has to report a result? In that case for the second scenario you coulr use Branch aware feature as described in:

Branch Aware Quiz - Captivate blog

Both approaches are possible, lot depends on the size of the project with all branches included (grouping is not really necessary) and on the way your learners will watch the course. Are there limitations on  bandwidth, will they use mobile devices (do you plan a responsive project?)?

Hi Lilybiri,

This will not be a SCORM project (no quizzing). I would ideally like to publish it as a PDF for use as a Job Aid. This is not a responsive project and audience will view it on a PC. I expect the entire project to be pretty large as there will be embedded MP4 videos on many slides.

(Thanks for the blog link, btw.)

Careful: interactive pdf is Flash-based, learners have to install the Flash plugin for Adobe Reader. You are aware of the fact that EOL of the Flash player is announced in 2 years?
