Button based display scrolling

Hi there,

I'm looking for a way to simulate the procedure of a programmingpanel in Captivate. The panel has a display with only a few buttons, which allow the student to scroll through the options. Also there is a 'enter' button, which guides the student through the program.

I was hoping that one the widgets that is already 'baked in' in Captivate would make this possible, but I haven't found a solution yet to deal with this situation.

Can anyone tell me if there is a widget available like this, or if it is possible at all to make a simulation like this in Captivate? (I presume there is.. )

Thanks for your help!!

Kind regards

    Correct answer

You could use the dropdown interaction (although it is very limited in several ways). But even then you need an advanced action that checks the chosen item in the list, which will be stored in a user variable, and based on that check you'll have navigation to the specific slide.

I'm just a user, spend some time trying to answer users, for free. No phone, please, not for free.

    No problem!

I understand the limitations of the drop down menu. I just discussed that with my collegues and we will change our plans/ambitions a little bit.

    Thanks for your help!!

Dag Bart, welkom in dit Captivate forum, maar ik moet wel verder gaan in het Engels,

I suppose you mean that just capturing different work flows as software simulation will not do the trick. Don't expect a widget (or an interaction if you want also HTML output) to give you what you want.  If you want to create that, you'll have to combine capturing with advanced actions, complicated navigation, branching...

Maybe if you posted some screenshots to explain more, it would be easier to answer,

    Hi Lilybiri,

    Thanks for you quick response!

Hereunder is showned thecontrol unit I want to simulate in Captivate:

Of course I can make seperate video's or pictures to create a workflow, but that won't cover everything we want to put into the training course. There are too many possible situations that have to be handled.

For now our intention is to make a complete simulation of the control unit, (without a beginning or ending). Once we have that covered, we can create different situations/problems to put in the training course. But if I do that, I would have to make a lot of slides, which all look similar, but only with another text in the display of the control unit. I was hoping there would be a interaction option that covers this problem....

I hope you understand the problem. I find it difficult to exactly formulate my question, but maybe you can advise me about the best way to handle this??

Will not be easy, lot of work. You want them to be able to explore the functionality without any instructions, right? Are you an experienced Captivate user?

Do you want them to click on the up/down arrow and then something should happen? I don't see the left/right arrow on the image. Do you want them to type on the keypad and result showing up in the display? And should the door open when pushing a button? Not totally clear yet to me. Where is the 'menu' appearing, and it will have different options I suppose?
