Button editing tutorials

Hello all,

Can anyone point me to a tutorial on adding custom button states to Cap2?

I am working on a list of resources and the gray default button style for text buttons isn't exactly the aesthetic I'm after.

So, two questions:

1. How do I export the button from FW so that all three states (up, over, down) can be recognized in a single file by the button properties window in Cap2?

2. Can I edit the default text button appearance?

Thanks in advance for your time and help!

- Brett

Yes, you are correct, Brett. Go ahead and test it yourself - that is always a good idea.

Create your buttons and place them in the \\buttons\ folder, then select any of the three and as long as the naming conventions are followed and the format type is BMP, your button will work properly in Captivate 1 or 2.

    Enjoy.

    Hi Brett,
Imagine that! You aren't impressed with slate gray on slate gray with black text? Seem pretty picky to me but ...

    Go to:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe Captivate 2\Gallery\Buttons\
Take a look at the buttons there and notice some features:

    Naming conventions ...
    black_back_down.bmp
    black_back_over.bmp
    black_back_up.bmp

Note the "states" are indicated by the last letters in the name after the last underscore...
Also notice that all files are *.BMP formatted.
Also notice that image sizes are in the 70x22 neighborhood.
With the information above, you should be able to create your own buttons.

I assume by "FW" you mean Fireworks? Any image editor will do, and if Fireworks is your throb, have at it.

Final note: The "default" button is not editable except for the size and the text that you can input. If you want more customizing than that, you will probably want to create your own. Good luck!

    Larry,

Thanks so much for the help.

Regarding the button states: so if I create three button states (up, over, down) and name them consistently, choosing any one of the three via the dialogue window will prompt Cap2 to pull in the other two states, right?

So if I have thrree files listed:

    button1_up
    button1_over
    button1_down

And choose button1_up, the button dialogue box will be populated with the over and down thumbnails. Or?

I'm going to test it tomorrow.

    Best,

    Brett
