Question

Button not appearing after web object

So we have a couple very simple video instruction modules where the user starts the module and a video streams into captivate and then when its done, the next button appears and they can advance to the second slide which simply announces the end of the course and a web link and thank you message.

the video is being streamed into the native Captivate Web Object widget. I set the NEXT button to appear at the end of the video. The video is 10 minutes 12 seconds long so the NEXT button is set to appear  after 606 seconds and is set up to appear below the web object.

The problem is, the video streams to the end, we see the whole video but it simply stops and then eventually advances on its own without ever showing the NEXT button. I can't get that next button to appear for love or money and I am running out of reasons why it isn't showing up. Has anyone else had an issue like this?

Thanks for  reading!!

A video playing in a web object doesn't really require the slide to be the same length as the video.  The slide timeline and the video timeline are totally separate.

I think your issue may simply be the excessively long slide timeline you are using. Most Captivate slides are under a minute. In interactive courses without voiceover the slides might only be a few seconds in length.

Just as an experiment, try shortening the slide timeline to 5 seconds and set the button to appear at 4 second and then see if it does.

    Hello Rod,

Thanks for checking in on this one. These Video Modules are special sort of contest type things we need to do from time to time, I know they are not ideal for Captivate, but we are tracking who watches it, so I put the video on it, they click a scored button to log a score then it publishes that info to the LMS, so we know who "qualified" for the contest. I figured the slide had to be the same length as the video, so I was setting up for the continue button (the scored button) to come in at minute 10 of a 10 min 10 second video, that way people would watch it and not just hit the button.

That DOES make sense though, what you are saying. I am sure the whole thing gets wonky because the slide is playing as long or longer than most courses!

Thanks for comments. I will try it. Can always count on you for a great perspective!!
