Question

button to activate set glow effect

I am wanting the learner to click on a button that will make the corresponding name glow, the glow needs to stop shortly after button is released.  The text needs to remain on the slide for duration of slide, but glow only happens when a button is clicked.

so when they click on the button "circles" the corresponding name of the component will glow for 1/5 seconds.

Have managed to get the name to glow however the glow remains in affect for the rest of the slide rather than the text returning to original format.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Which version are you using? You can set the duration of a glow effect, but not link it to the release of a button. Clicking a button is an event that can trigger an action, but releasing not. If you have output to SWF the eventhandler widget of InfoSemantics could help, but it will not work for HTML5 output.
