We are currently using Captivate 8.  However, we need to access a course created in 2009 with a file extension of .cp.  Is it possible for us to open this file?

A piece developed in 2009 was likely built with either version 3 or 4...

Adobe Captivate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (version history)

Captivate typically can open the previous version, and maybe 2 versions back only.

So no, CP8 will not open a course that old.

You need to find a few versions - likely CP5 at least, then probably CP7.

Something you can do? If not, let me know and I may be able to help...

    Erik,

Thanks for confirming that what I was afraid was going to be the issue, is indeed the issue.

We have another alternative but it just won't be as easy.

    Thanks...

Captivate 6 was the last version capable of still opening .cp files.

Sometimes Adobe has provided the download link for a trial version of earlier Cp versions.  If you search this forum you may be able to find one of those links, or else send them a support request.

Once you get the file opened and converted to CPTX format, then you can use Captivate 8 to edit it.  In fact you will NEED to finish its editing with a valid Captivate license because content published from trial versions will cease to function after 30 days.
