Can Captivate 8 playbar controls have keyboard shortcuts?

I have a swf file created in Captivate 8. The playbar has Back and Forward buttons, the progress bar, and the table of contents. There is no interactivity in the slides except for a couple places with rollovers. My client would like users to be able to advance through the slides using the keyboard - spacebar or Enter or left/right arrows or page up/page down. I know I can make that happen using by buttons with keyboard shortcuts on each slide, but can I assign keyboard shortcuts to the playbar Back and Forward buttons?

If you use custom navigation buttons, you can add shortcut keys, Right and Left arrow key work just fine.

I would prefer using shape buttons (which you can make as invisible as Click boxes) because you can put them on the first slide and time for the rest of the project, or put them on the master slide(s). That will save you time, not having to copy/paste another interactive object to each slide.

Thanks, all, for your suggestions. I ended up using transparent buttons with no text, setting the Page Up and Page Down keys as shortcuts. Lilybiri, your suggestion was great but I ended up putting buttons on nearly every page because of some other navigation needs.

Unless you really need different navigation on each slide, you could have use a shape button, hidden it on the slides where you wanted different navigation. Why transparent buttons? A click box is invisible by default...

I used transparent buttons rather than click boxes because I didn't want them to be clickable. They were there only so I could set up keyboard shortcuts for the Page Up and Page Down keys. Regarding using shape buttons: I just spent a little time learning about them, including reading your blog post "Why I like Shape Buttons - Captivate 6!," and I see that it would have been a more practical option than putting transparent buttons on nearly every slide. It's a method I'll definitely use in the future. Thanks for the suggestion!

‌Another advantage of shape buttons is that you can use them to pause on your slides before the project automatically proceeds to the next slide.

You would need to edit the playbar with AS3.

Why don't you use clickboxes with the shortcuts. The user would never know.
