Can't edit copied/duplicated video slides independently

I would like to record a video demo and then split it into several slides. As I can see in Captivate 6, it is impossible. So I decided to copy recorded video slides and edit videos independently: to cut out unnecessary pieces and do other editing. But I found that when I edit video in one of the copied slides, the same editing is applied to all other. How can I edit copied videos independently from each other?

This is a year late and I am sure you have found the answer.   But I am using Captivate 8 and had the same problem.  If I duplicate a video demo slide, the duplicate slide points to the same video as the original slide, so you cannot edit the videos independently.

After trying a few things, this worked.

  1. Note the number of the slide you want to duplicate - e.g Slide 3
  2. Click on the library button at the top right
  3. Locate the video within the Media section of the library that is attached to the slide you want to duplicate (you can do this by right-clicking on each video and then clicking on usage). In my case I found the one attached to Slide 3
  4. Right-click the video and click on Export.
  5. Export to the video to a new file name - in my case I exported to slide3-copy.cpvc
  6. Click on the slide you want to duplicate - in my case I click on Slide 3
  7. Then click on the insert menu at the top of the screen and then click on CPVC slide
  8. Select the cpvc file you just created. In my case I select slide3-copy.cpvc

This results in the duplication of the slide, but with different videos that can be independently edited.

As both slides will then each contain the same video, what would be benefit be of repeating the video? I'm confused.

Because after editing, they won't be the same any more.

It's possible that I am using Captivate all wrong, but in order to get my videos right and with no ums and ahs, I record 30 - 40 seconds of video without any sound, and then I record my voice while I watch it play back in Audition.

I don't like using software simulations as they produce too many slides and too many mouse moves that go at 1cm per hour that I then have to speed up manually.  So I found the short burst video method works best for me. Sometimes I get too confident and record a whole minute and then find that I can't fit all the stuff I want to say in at the right places. So I need to split the video and have the last frame stay put until I stop speaking, but have the next slide start at exactly where I left off.

Someone in another thread asked how to split a video to include a pause as the audio you ended up with, and recorded separately is now too long for the video. This happens to me a lot as described above.   The answer he got was to split the video and then do a screen capture of the last frame and insert in between the two halves of the split video.   The method I do is much easier and you can't see the join.
