Question

Can we open a Captivate 4 file in Captivate 3?

I am working with the trial version of Captivate 4. Due to budget issues (sigh) we may be sticking with version 3 for the near future. Will I be able to open and edit any version 4 files in Captivate 3? If I publish these tutorials to the web that are made with the trial of version 4 and I can't get the full license, will the tutorials stop working or expire once the trial has expired?

Thank you!

Thanks for the helpful info. Much as I'm enjoying working with version 4 I think I'll stick with 3 for now.

Nope you can't open Cap 4 files with Cap 3.

I would presume that any SWF or EXE you create will still work after the trial expires. But you wouldn't be able to change the Cap file that created them.

I'm only creating new content in Cap 3 until I get the full Cap 4. Who knows when or if that will happen :o(

    Hi BethAnne

In addition to what KerryWilson said:

Normally content created using the trial version is equipped with an Expiration Date that you cannot edit until you pay for the license. Once you do that you will need to edit any projects created with the trial to remove the expiration.

If you have created something in Captivate 4 that you wish to continue editing with Captivate 3, you can try to preserve things (to an extent) by creating a project in Captivate 3 that is sized identically to the one in Captivate 4. Then copy the slides from Captivate 4 and paste into the Captivate 3 project.

How well this may work remains to be seen. Certainly I wouldn't expect anything specific to Captivate 4 to be understood and work without issue in Captivate 3.

    Cheers... Rick
