Cannot import wav files

I'm relatively new to working with captivate and am trying to import a .wav file into a slide. According to a book on Captivate from Icon logic - it says that captivate supports mp3 files and wav files. It also says that that when imported, WAV files are converted to mp3 format. When I try to import a wav file I get a message that says "unable to decode and import the selected sav/mp3 file". Does anyone know how to address this? thanks!

    Try this.
Open Windows Sound Recorder (Start > Run > type sndrec32 and press Enter)
From inside Sound Recorder, click File > Open and open the WAV file.
    Click File > Save As
    Click the Change... button
    Click OK
(Note that you really didn't change anything)
Type a different file name and click Save.
Now try importing the new file name into Captivate.

I have been using Animate for a long time and imported audio files with no problem and then one day it just stopped being able to import ANY kind of audio. I am careful to never disturb my settings. Now old file or new files will not work. It has rendered a very valuable tool, utterly useless. Oh the pain... the pain.

    Hi Sue

The answer to that is a definite "it depends". Here's the deal. Captivate does import WAV format. But it only understands WAV format that has been what is called "PCM Encoded". There are different encoding types for audio files.

You may find that you never encounter this again. Or, you may find that nearly every file you choose to import has to be converted. It all depends on the original encoding of the file.

I realize this answer is a bit on the vague side. Apologies for that. Unfortunately there is no definite one size fits all answer here.

    Cheers... Rick
