Question

Cannot move endpoint of slide

for some reason, using captivate 2, when I try to use the slider to resize some elements on the timeline, such as a text caption and the overall length of the slide, the sliders will not move. I'm getting the correct cursor, indicating I can resize, but it simply doesn't move. What is going on here? I could do it before, I really really don't want to have to edit all of the times by hand in the properties menu.

Hello DilbertG,

I've also seen this on many occasions. The problem I have is that it is
still an intermittent issue. For example, sometimes having been working
in Captivate for approximately 5 to 6 hours all of a sudden I find that
I cannot reduce the display time of objects on my floated Timeline. S

Sometimes I find that closing and restarting the program seems to
resolve the problem but other times no matter what I do I cannot either
move or resize the desired item.

What is really weird is that if the next day I go back to the same
project file then the object moves without a problem.

I do recall there being a similar problem back in Captivate 1 however I
found that version 1.01 (for me at least) resolve the issue.

I have filed bugs on this one but unfortunately thus far these have been
marked as UTR (Unable to reproduce) by the Captivate team.

Personally I still maintain that there is a focus issue somewhere
although I do appreciate that unless the QA team can reproduce this
behavior it is very difficult for them to address.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark and all

Keep in mind that Captivate is continually building history to support those "unlimited" undo levels. I'm guessing this could account for the inability to adjust things one day, then the next morning things are dandy.

(Assuming, of course, that you closed and restarted Captivate in between)

Cheers... Rick

Does any one of you have a project where you can reproduce this problem consistantly? I think if mouse movement is an issue in Captivate timeline, then we should file a bug for the same, and provide a sample project along with the bug.

thanks.

Hi RacyT and DilbertG - and All,
Actually, this is commonly seen, and drives a lot of users "nutso". And while I grant it is a real problem, I offer the suggestion that there is also a real fix for it.

When moving an objects' position on the timeline or changing its duration, I think you'll find it beneficial to get in the habit of using the mouse ( only) to "select" the object (and be careful to select only the object(s) you want to manipulate) ...
and then do the actual manipulations using the keyboard. Specifically:

UP or DOWN (ARROWS): Move focus up or down in the stacking order.
RIGHT or LEFT (ARROWS): Move selected object right or left in time of timeline.
SHIFT+RIGHT or LEFT (ARROWS): The shift key will "tack" the left (starting) position of the object, while the right or left arrow keys will adjust the object's time-of-display to a longer or shorter period.

Learning (training myself) to think "keyboard, keyboard, keyboard" for changing stacking order or other "time-related" properties was the hard part. Once I got used to thinking and doing things this way, all the work went out of these tasks.

P.S. Though he didn't know it (and still doesn't until he reads this), my thought processes and subsequent decision that this is the only way to approach these tasks was initiated (by posts on these forums) by Rick Stone, fellow AdobeCommunityExpert and Captivate instructor. Thanks, Rick! NOW, you know the REST of the story!

Not sure why that will be happening. But just try moving the items up down in the timeline first, and then try resize.

Also check that the objects and slides are not locked accidently.

thanks
