I am having a huge problem with Captivate 2 and 3. It will no longer allow me to bring in my ppt slides. I keep getting a "Cannot open PPT file" error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

    Hi Rick,

Thanks for your help. I was able to find the solution to my problem which I will post here. Perhaps you can ask Adobe to add it to the knowledge base of something to try when re-installing Flash doesn't work. It is a real simple thing.

If the Microsoft XML Parser becomes corrupted or is not installed properly, this can cause the “Could Not Open PPT file” error in Captivate.
To correct this problem, download and install the latest version of the Microsoft XML Parser. You can do this by following the directions below:
    1. Exit from PowerPoint.
    2. Download the MSXML.msi installer from Microsoft to your desktop.
    3. Double-click on the MSXML.msi to install the program.
    4. Try again to import your presentation into Captivate.

    Hi eLearner22

You might want to check with the folks in your IT group and see if they made any recent changes to your PC restrictions. Being unable to open PowerPoint used to be a huge issue and was tied directly to IT locking workstations down too tight for Captivate to allow it to bring in PPT.

If you can, try logging in as an administrator (or have one of them try) and see if it works then. If so, you are dealing with a lockdown too tight issue. If it still doesn't work that way, it's obviously something else.

    Cheers... Rick

    Hi Captiv8r,

Thanks for the reply. I sent your message to our IT folks. They already spent two hours with me deleting and installing FlashPlayer.

Everyone else in my dept can still use it without a problem so whatever the issue is, it may be local to my machine. Are there any internet options that I should change or anything else you can think of that I can look at? Last week, I had to have my co-workers import the ppt files and send to me as .cp files.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi again

Hmm, beyond checking your PC privileges, you might try resetting your Captivate settings file. To do this, try the following Technical Note. Click Here to read the Technical Note.

Another thing you might try is to have them create you a new user profile and see if that changes anything.

    Cheers... Rick
