Cannot turn off Retry message in Knowledge Check Questions

Hello

I have some Short Answer Knowledge Check Questions that I want the student to attempt once, then go to the next slide which reveals the correct answer. The reason for this is it would be nearly impossible for the student to enter the exact correct response, and providing multiple attempts until they get it exactly right would be frustrating to them. I just want them to have a try at it once, then go to the next slide with the answer.

So I untick "Infinite Attempts", then let No. of Attempts = 1, and set the Success and Failure actions to Go to the Next slide. This seems to work until I add other questions, then return to these Knowledge Check Short Answer slides to find it has put the RETRY MESSAGE back, and reverted back to selecting INFINITE ATTEMPTS.

This seems like a bug, am I missing something? Is it even possible to do it in this way?

Thanks,

Veronica

Hi Veronica,

I need to double-check if I can reproduce your issue. I am on 9.0.0.230 and using Windows. Can you check your version number and tell which OS you use?

As for the Short Answer question, just wanted to tell that I rarely will use the default Short Answer type of question for the same reasons you mention. I will create a custom Short Answer slide using the Scrolling Text interaction and advanced actions. In case you want to read about a (pretty complicated) use case, have a look at:

Hi Lilybiri

I'm using 9.0.0.223 on MAC OSX 10.9.5. I will have a look at your blog link.

Thanks!

You didn't install the hotfix: Hot fix | Adobe Captivate 9 issues

I would recommend to install it, although your issue is not in the list. You'll have version 9.0.0.230 after installing.

I didn't find time yet to check out the Knowledge slide design in depth. Will probably blog about enhancements to Quizzes.
