Captivate 10 publishing and preview issues

I am new to Captivate and recently purchased v.10 (2017). I am having two technical issues:

  1. When previewing the project, each slide flickers with a white flash whenever the mouse moves. I don't have flickering issues in any other program on my desktop. I've tried compressing and decompressing the files and nothing seems to help. The project so far is only 9 slides long, has a video for the title slide, and audio embedded throughout most slides.
  2. My second issue involves publishing. I am publishing it as HTML5 but it is showing up as a blank screen. I have tried publishing in IE, Edge, and Chrome. There aren't any error scripts or text that show up--it's just a blank screen.

Please help.

Are you working on a normal (blank) or a responsive project? If it is a normal project, you should only use Preview HMTL5 in Browser (F11) a Preview test, because the other Preview methods all use a temporary SWF-file. Like Rod I never did see flickering while moving a mouse, nor heard it from other users.

If the second suggestion of Rod is causing your second problem, please post a screenshot of a timeline for a problem slide. It could help to define if you are pausing the slide by an interactive object. Check also the Properties for the slide, Actions tab: is the action On Enter set to Pause? It should be No Action.

I've never seen your first issue so I cannot offer anything there.

For your second issue, I would like to know if you are just trying to play the HTML5 content locally from your own hard drive?  If yes, then try uploading the published output to a web server, or set it to publish as SCORM 1.2 and upload it to SCORM Cloud to test from there.

HTML5 content is normally recommended to be tested in a web server environment to eliminate issues that are just due to browser security restrictions on locally played content.

One other thing:  Since you are new to Captivate, you may not fully understand how the timeline works.  If you have an interactive object on the slide that is pausing the playback, then your 'blank screen' might be nothing more than the fact that the timeline is paused.

Unfortunately it's not a timeline issue. It may be what was previously suggested regarding viewing the published version on a local browser. I'll see if viewing it in the SCORM cloud works.

Regarding the flickering: after some trouble shooting I discovered that for some reason the project doesn't like a theme placed on top of the background. At this point I'm not sure why it happens or how to solve it.

It basically looks like the background template is fighting to be in front of my theme image. Any clues about that?
