Captivate 13.1 (macOS): Assessment simulation stops counting correct clicks when interactive buttons are placed on slides before the simulation
Environment: Adobe Captivate 13.1.0.197 · macOS · Software simulation recorded in Assessment mode · 14 scored interactions (click boxes / text entry) · Preview in Chrome
Summary:
Adding introduction slides with interactive buttons before an assessment simulation causes some correct clicks to be excluded from the final score. The total number of scored interactions remains correct, but correct answers are lost. Removing the buttons (nothing else) restores correct scoring.
Steps to reproduce:
- Record a software simulation in Assessment mode (mine has 14 scored interactions).
- Verify scoring works: a perfect run scores 14/14 = 100%.
- Add two slides at the beginning of the project: a title slide and an instructions slide, each containing a standard button with the action "Go to next slide". Reporting section for both buttons: "Include in quiz" is NOT checked.
- Preview the project and complete a perfect run (no failure captions are triggered at any point).
Expected result: 14 correct / 100%.
Actual result: 11 correct / 78.57% (= 11/14). Three correct clicks are silently dropped from the score. The learner sees no failure feedback during the simulation, yet fails the assessment.
Isolation tests performed (same project, same perfect run):
- Test A — Intro slides WITH buttons: 11/14 = 78.57% → FAIL
- Test B — Intro slides deleted: 14/14 = 100% → PASS
- Test C — Intro slides kept, buttons removed, auto-advance via timeline bookmark ("Go to Next Slide"): 14/14 = 100% → PASS
This isolates the trigger to the presence of interactive buttons before the simulation slides. The denominator (14) is identical in all tests, so no extra scored objects are being added — correct clicks are being lost, not diluted.
Notes:
- This looks related to previously fixed scoring bugs in the simulation engine (12.5 release notes: click-box component not properly registered as a scorable object and excluded from the results calculation; and the 12.4 forum report of clicks not counted in the final score while still included in the total).
- Screenshots of all three results screens available on request.
Workaround found: remove all interactive components before the first simulation slide and use timeline bookmarks with "Go to Next Slide" for intro slides.
Is this a known issue, and is a fix planned for an upcoming release?
